No J.T., I think this has got to be somewhere from the late Thirties or Fourties. It is very light weight and is vented.

Very nice Douglas! As always. Here's my $7 wooly with my thin ribbon work,
wore it today in 93 degrees with 85% humidity and it was hotter than a $2 pistol.

Thank you, Douglas, I know you're being too kind, this cheap camera doesn't do justice to how I know it can look, but I just can't afford better right now and it's pretty much better than nothing. Thanks again.

Deanglen, It looks good!:eusa_clap Hot as it might have been, it was better than bareheaded if you were in the sun long. When something looks good, wear it with joy.

I think it is from the Thirties Dean but Twenties are possible. It is a Stephen not John Stetson. I really need to get it cleaned, the color is much lighter than what is shown. It has a lot of smoke and nicotine staining and it is a bit musty.

Wow! Coming from Mr. Howell, Douglas, that is quite a compliment. ;)

ARTIS ET FACIENDO BOATER

PERFECTION, except it is a size too small. I will still wear it though.

True Alan, they seem to have been very popular. This one is in great shape but I am not convinced that it looks good on me though.

I think they're so outside the norm of even what hat wearers are used to these days that there's a strong 'familiarity curve'. I think it does look good, but certainly more jarring to our modern eye than a fedora or Panama.

Boaters ...

I recall quite well one of my great-uncles who always wore a straw boater. My memory of him was during the late 1950's into the early 1990's. I believe he was the only person I ever saw wearing a hat like that, but for him it was "normal" - that was just his own personal style. It never looked out of place or odd, even though no one (that I ever knew) wore a hat like that.

I like the way they look, I'm just not sure it looks good for my shape. I will get another that is my size and see how it looks. I definitely need the taller type though.
