JT, I just tried it with a high crowned Knox Forty I have. It has a 5 1/4" crown with a 1 3/4" snap brim and real nice 2" wide ribbon. The felt is so super soft that you inspired me to give it a shot just sitting here at my desk, with no steam or anything....J.T.Marcus said:Thanks, bolthead. The hat started out as a standard black Resistol, with a 2" brim and about a 4 1/2" crown. I pushed the crown into an open dome, then down in the center till the crown height was about 2 1/2". The next step is easier than it sounds. I pushed the dome from the inside, till the peak came up just about even with the existing crown edge. I know it sounds like too much material is folded into the crown, but remember, it now sits higher on the head. (Heads, like hats, are also tapered) It was fun, and I will wear it, from time to time.

the crease isn't as sharp as it should be, or I'd like it....but with no steam & just playing around with it, it works fairly well like you said.
This one is a bit blurry, but you get the idea. The crown went from 5 1/4" down to about 3".
Thanks JT.
One thing I've noticed more and more lately on this forum, is that there is a lot of very nice hats made right here in my home state of Pa., alot of them from small towns near by, not too far from me too. Funny thing is, I can't seen to find any of them. :eusa_doh:DOUGLAS said:This is an older type J.T. It only reads The Open Road...
LMAO.....I'm calling it a "MarcusEaton".....thanks my friend.J.T.Marcus said:bolthead, That's a fantastic low crown you came up with. I hope you plan to wear it, some. Steam it, if you like; but back in the day, those slight imperfections in the bash were considered a sure sign that it was lovingly done by hand. By the way, what are we going to call this thing? Is it a "Buster" or a "Keaton"? Somewhere, he's probably getting a good chuckle over us. :eusa_clap lol
What he said......lolJ.T.Marcus said:Tango Yankee, Not only are you a hat lover, but a serious photographer, too!
That's definitely a winning combination for this forum. Love the hats!
