4X Serratelli. Picked up a few years ago. Every time I went to the store, I found myself drawn to it. I plan to buy a better quality hat and have it shaped like it.

It's been a long time since I last posted here. Here's a gambler type hat I made years back and it's reminiscent to the ones you would have seen on HBO's Deadwood or BBC's Ripper Street.

This hat used to have a telescopic crown but has been changed to a sort of Hoppy/Gus Crease, I had a hint of Lonesome Dove, Broken Trail and Open Range going on in my mind.

And at last, a black Bolero hat reminiscent of Lee Van Cleef from the Dollars trilogy.

You left out a famous western actor that's a dead ringer!

ANDY DEVINE (1905 - 1977) is known for his distinctive raspy, crackly voice and roles in Western films, including his role as Cookie, the sidekick of Roy Rogers in 10 feature films. He also appeared alongside John Wayne in films such as Stagecoach (1939), The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, and How the West Was Won (both 1962). He is also remembered as Jingles on the TV series The Adventures of Wild Bill Hickok from 1951 to 1958.

Ah, yes - thanks for pointing that out! I first heard his voice as Friar Tuck in Disney's Robin Hood. Years later, I learned more of his career same as other veteran Western actors.

Ive got some cowboy/ cowgirl/ Pony pics of my Dad and his sister from the early 30's in Kansas City, Mo, and the mid 30s in Compton Calif. Dad said it was the same photographer that knew my Grandfather. This fellow traveled the country from town to town with a pony, a trailer with a mobile darkroom and a supply of Lil cowboy duds. He Developed/ Printed the pictures in the trailer while he was there and let the customers pick out the frames to mount them in. Id say it was an interesting job set.. prob a good life for the pony too considering the time.. although I suspect he was bored... every pic of the pony has its eyes closed. Dad always swore it was a real live pony, but Ive suspected it might have been a stuffed ex-pony lol

Double denim cowboy style with my newest Akubra, a like new vintage Snowy River, 60's vintage Lee 101J Rider jacket (the original denim cowboy jacket and easily my favourite among all of the denim rider and trucker designs), a Sugar Cane check flannel and the timelessly classic Wrangler MWZ13 jeans. Yippy Yi Yay!

All of mine are getting kind of threadbare. Been wondering if the newer 13MWZ‘s are as good & what the cut is like?
I’ve got a pair bought new just a few yrs ago (can’t remember exactly but probably 2022). Cut and fit is pretty much spot on to the older ones, as far as durability, not quite as heavy and hardwearing as the old Wranglers but more so than the current Levi’s.

Been thinking about buying one pair & having them shipped in to see how I like them first. Don’t like to hear that they are lighter weight.

Any experience with the colors? Are they the same fabric as the blue?

Here’s the pair I have. They’re definitely a bit lighter in colour now than they were when they were new, but they’re one of about 4 pairs of jeans that I currently own so I wear and wash them often. A bit of fading and marks from phone, pliers etc. and a little fraying at the cuffs but honestly not bad at all given the amount of wear I put them through in a relatively short period of time.
Again they’re a little lighter than the older ones but much better grade than my current make Levi’s which I will likely not replace when they give out fully.
All in all I’m pretty happy either way them as far as practicality is concerned. And as per the label, they’re fully cotton. They haven’t gone and spandexed them yet

The denim is identical to in the past, I bought a '70's NOS vintage pair a while back and recently, a new pair in unwashed rigid denim, the denim looks, feels and washes exactly the same. As far as I know they haven't changed the denim specs on these in decades, if not from their inception, it's the same incredibly hard wearing broken twill in the same unique bright Wrangler blue.

The cut is also identical, if I'm not mistaken it hasn't changed since their launch, either. Snug and well fitting top box, loose on the thigh and straight through the leg. Of the original 1950s cuts of all of the big brands I think Wrangler's is the most flattering. I have a pair of the Lee 101 reissue 50's Rider Cowboy jeans, when lined up next to the Wranglers they look almost identical, but worn the small differences make for a much different look, the Lees being sort of an anti-fit, the Wranglers with that classic Western profile.

I have a couple pair of blues that are threadbare & worn thru. I have two pair in black that will go a while yet. Been wondering about the sand/wheat color & if they are spandexed or not.

I have two pair of Levi’s & won’t be buying more of them either.

I believe all of the 13mwz colors are still 13. oz non stretch and 100% cotton

That's interesting, my newer ones say Made in Mexico of US cotton, so it seems there might be a change since I bought them.

Out of interest I just checked the US Wrangler site, the unwashed rigid version that I bought and compared to the '70s deadstock pair is indicated as being made from heavyweight Sanforized 14.75 denim, just like the originals, and the various different washed versions are marked as being made from heavyweight 15.25 oz denim. I would imagine that the washed versions were beefed up so they would still feel pretty thick after the equivalent of the hundreds of washes they go through.

If you are really unsure and want to be sure of the real thing the prices on eBay and Etsy for deadstock pairs is still very reasonable in the larger scheme of things, with plenty available for under a C note.

This is interesting to note. I didn’t realise there was so much variation even within that style name. Like the pair I’ve got right now is pretty hardwearing and solid, but I know I’ve had others in the past that were heavier and still had that same 13mwz label.
Interesting about the cotton sources also. I wonder where mine came from as it doesn’t specify USA

There seems to be a harder wearing version, the 47MWZ. The fit might be slightly different but they look more or less the same in the pictures. They claim to be 20% harder wearing even though the weight is the same 14.75 oz., with beefier stitching, might be an option? The rigid version seems to be discontinued, but the dark pre-washed version should not be far off, the same as buying rigid and washing a few times at most. The main difference seems to be the more traditional watch pocket, which IMO is an improvement, the original horizontal slit pocket under the waistband is impossible to take anything out from with one hand, and nearly impossible to put anything in as well.
