That's a nice one, Lefty -- you are hereby issued a temporary membership.

What really interests me about your post, however, is that it helps to zero in on a timeframe for lids with the same characteristics. For example, I have a Royal Stetson that is an OR clone with the same sweat, liner and size tag. Based on a number of factors, I have always linked those elements to the early 60's. What's great about your lid is that it has a price tag for $11.95 attached, which, I think, is very consistent with the early 60's timeframe.

Thanks JtL. I suspected 60s. Do we know the period of time that Strats were made? I think we had established an introduction year (or something close), but I don't think we've found when production ceased.

I want to say that is is nice to see some virtually pristine Stratoliners making their appearance lately.
Lafty, I know a hatter who can stretch that beauty to your size.
Thunder, Yours is simply beautiful.
Tango Yankee and Michaelshane, I love those blue shades. Those are fine examples of the Stratoliner.

thunderw21 -- I have to say, your Strat is extraordinary. I am fascinated by what's going on with the color there...

So, how would you characterize the color?
Is the pinkish hue part and parcel of the original color of the hat, do you think? (as opposed to some kind of red material affecting the color over time).

Has anyone here ever seen a Stetson lid in that color?

You seem to have quite the luck coming across these hues (I'm thinkin' Peach Portis...

)

I'd call it pinkish. It's almost silverbelly but is too pink. Strangely enough, my Open Road also has a similar shade to it, just not as bright.
I do think it's the original color.

Strat left, OP right in natural light. For context, the carpet just behind and to the left of the Strat is the true color of white.

btw, the Peach Portis is one of my favorites.

I thought I'd post another one of mine while I'm here and have a photo handy. It came with a very shallow crease that I've not changed.

Ah, heck, while I'm at it I'll add in the one I posted in the hat pin thread a while back. It's a bear trying to get the color close on this one. You get the felt right, and the ribbon is wrong! The ribbon is an unusual reddish orangish color.

I'd like to present my application for membership in the Stratoliner Society if I may. This arrived today, quicker than I expected it to. I believe the felt is softer than any I have touched before. There were a couple of smudges on it that brushed right off. A good, thorough brushing is in order, but it's not too bad. I already had the box and have been waiting for the hat to fill it with.

Welcome to the Stratoliner Society!!!
Let me tell you that the brim will have a different shape to it once you store it in the Stratoliner box!
But I think its what makes the Stratoliner what it is!!!

I have a question about a pin for this hat. Which of these is the most historically correct?

I have read this thread extensively and believe the TWA pin is the correct one, but the box I have shows a plane with four engines rather than two both on the side and on the top.

Dont worry about the engines on the box... this is what went on the hat back in the day.
So I would tell you the bottom pin you have posted would be the closest one.
The top photo you posted looks as if the wing ends have been pressed down.

I have the TWA pin on hand and the top one coming. With what you said, the TWA pin will go on the Strat and the other one will go on a Campdraft then.
