Not sure how the 1870s date and 1909 copyright date work together here.

Most likely the photo was taken in 1870.
The “Boys from Marketing” bought the rights to print and sell as “picture postcards”
around 1909.

Similar to the “Jesse James” funeral photos.

Another thing that was popular at the time was “post-mortem” photography.
Mostly children that had died before their time. They are dressed in
their "Sunday’s best" with the eyes opened.

I would post some but they scare the fur out of Polo & me!

Production Dept. Later I switched to "on the field" news cameraman.

His first words to me,
“Son....you got the CBI patch on the wrong shoulder!”

I owned a pair, a blue and green one. They were very comfortable.

Never wore a hat, mostly a baseball cap or my favorite:
Aviator’s style helmet. Very popular in my time.

Believe it or not, this “Davy Crockett” coonskin cap was the rage for kids all over the nation
back in the mid ‘50s. Never got one. Ma said they were made from rabid cats.

My dad got me a beautiful “Gene Autry” cap pistol with image of his horse Champion on the plastic ivory grips.
It was made of steel and the cylinder opened to put plastic bullets.
I tried buying one recently but it was super $$$$$$$. Wow... that’s quite a load on yer rear kid!

The hat in that picture probably is rabid cat because it's sure not raccoon.
