The next fantastic Homburg from the Norwegian-Greek Christmas gift box:
Borsalino in a medium grey with black crown ribbon and contrasting "rosé" brim binding.
Height centre dent at 11.0 cm, brim width at 5.0 cm
The (probably original) lining says imported by "Brödrene Dobloug"; the sweat I believe
was later exchanged at "Hans H. Holms" in Oslo, where the paper label was lost
(unfortunately missing). Since the lining is sewn in, I think the Borsa is from the (early?) 50s
- maybe even earlier? Does the lining perhaps give another clue?

"Brödrene Dobloug" or "Brødrene Dobloug" was a company in Oslo
founded in 1870 by the brothers Mikkel (1844-1913) and Jens Dobloug (1837-1891).

Lately I have seen a couple of not-so-great looking Borsalinos on Ebay that were made in the USA. When did Borsalino ever have hats made in the USA? They don't look like same quality as what I am used to seeing.

Wonderful Borsalino, Matt. I'm envious of how many great vintage hats keep turning up in Norway.

If it wasn't for the snow, I'd move to @PanosChris' neighbourhood :)

Super photos of the store, too.

The Bollman Hat Co. Had license to make Borsalinos in the US. I avoid these hats.
Thanks, Brent. Just from the photos, I can see many look inferior without even touching them, though some that "hatsandcaps" on Ebay is selling look ok from the photos. I would like to actually inspect one to see the differences in quality or hear from someone who has. I don't understand all the Borsalinos for sale on Ebay out of Japan.

Just arrived from Greece, an Italian (that is sold in Italy) Borsalino. The interesting part is that it is marten fur felt. I've never had one before and, frankly, didn't know they existed till about two weeks ago. The felt has a fabulous hand. Thought it might be of interest.

Thank you for your replies. There’s only one label under the sweatband.

The "final" piece of the puzzle. On the lower deck, the first name is Borsalino's term for the colour of the hat. The second c. is the ubiquitous colour term for the ribbon colour. The third name is Borsalino's name for the type of hat.
Borsalino were mercurial in their terminology. The c.asfalto for the ribbon colour holds true, though.

It's an interesting find DVNO. No liner, but a liner tip. And the air vents are unusual. I'd guess ca. 1960s.

Like you, I'm waiting for the true experts to kick in.

A thing of beauty, Matt and a nice backstory as well. Early fifties is likely spot on, maybe even earlier.
