Christy's: Gone, but to return?

The first Fedora I ever owned was a Christy's, sadly that went missing and I have no clue where it went. I ordered a replacement and then over the last few years ordered two beaver fedoras and another in regular felt. Going back years they made a lot of the wool caps that people in my part of the UK often wore and which were often called "Dai" caps as so many people were called David. I am sure that Laird Hatters will work well with the brand.

Yes, their vision for the brand sounds great. I'm really glad it's gone to a new owner that will take it that direction rather than a novelty out fit thst would apply it to a stack 'em high, sell 'em cheap range with no furfelt.

Based on information available as of early 2026, Christy & Co Ltd (trading as Christys' Hats) ceased trading and went into liquidation, with the company dissolved as of January 2023.
Here are the key details regarding the status of the brand:
Liquidation/Ceased Trading: The former business entity, Christy & Co Ltd, entered a Creditors Voluntary Winding-Up (liquidation) in 2022 and was officially dissolved in early 2023.
Brand Acquisition: The Christys' London brand and website were acquired by new owners.
Current Status (Relaunch): The new owners are working towards a relaunch, as indicated by a notice on their official website.
Customer Issues: Recent customer reviews have reported significant issues with orders, including money taken but items not dispatched and non-responsive customer service.
Manufacturing: The brand historically manufactured in Witney, Oxfordshire, and as of March 2023, was still associated with that factory, according to a Walpole membership announcement.
I got my third Adventurer directly from them very cheap as they seemed to be clearing old stock. The new outlet has none of the old fur felt fedora range not even the open crown Adventurer. I am also sad because this long established company is based near to my childhood home. They push their expensive caps. My assumption is that the Fedora did not sell. I have only worn one for about 15 years but almost never see them in London UK. Goodbye Christy. My other two outlets have also become inaccessible/expensive: an Australian Akubra seller that no longer exports and the Etsy based Greek company AgnoulitaHats are £100 more expensive in just a few years. So might never buy a hat again.

There are some Christys hats still around, a company called Tweed in Sweden has some left over on a collab they did with Christy's before the company went through. However I do not know whether Laird who have taken over Christys will carry anything like the same range. Christys did a nice line in Beaver Fedoras at a reasonable cost. You can sometimes find some out there as "deadstock" from other sellers. tweed.se has some, so also has Villagehats in the UK (not the US one). Finally Ebay, always seems to have some, so happy hunting for some time to come.
