Hückel Jota Seal Velour

Thought I would add this one. Hückel Jota Seal Velour (1930s). Also an example of a 1930s black sweatband.

Black Dobbs mid-30's sweatband

Mario said:
I've definitely never before seen a Dobbs or any other US-made hat from that time period with a black sweat. I guess there is a first time for everything. The one thing that really made me wonder about the age is the fact that the sweatband is unreeded.

Hat is dark gray Heather. In addition to the model and appearance this one has a 1936-7 newspaper under sweatband.

When I was renovating my old flat, I found lots of old (1920's/Weimar Republic) newspapers behind the mopboard. Quite fascinating news, if a bit dated...

I should have known that I could use them one day.

Ultra Black and even has a funeral band to cover the ribbon.
Has a dark brown sweatband, but I do have a 1930's Mossant with a black sweatband which has dark brown felt.[huh]

This Hückel is a good example of how difficult it is to photograph black hats - this picture is the exact color of my true navy blue hat.

Matt - the most 'fun' newspaper I found behind a sweatband, was a folded up 1942 comics page with a Disney cartoon...in a Disney hat!

Stetson 3X long-hair and Standard Quality

2 of my 3 favorite non-western black hats. The other belongs to Douglas lol

This is probably my favorite hat, black or otherwise - Stetson 3X long-hair with very soft fur. None of the other long-hairs I've had have been anywhere near as soft as this one. Maybe it has more/less beaver in it?

Here's a mid-30s Stetson 'Standard Quality'. Looks purple in this pic, but it's jet-black:

It looks like a brother or sister of my black Borsalino posted on this thread.

I've got contemporary(c.1940) brown bound-edge Mossant and Borsalino that are near twins too.

New to me:

Another pretty old, velour-finished hat, probably from the late 20's or early 30's. I'm not really sure about the name of the manufacturer, but I'll just call it the G.J.M.

Crown (creased): 4 7/8"
Brim: 2 3/8"
Ribbon: 2"

Oh, back in the day they weren't so rare. Especially on German/Austrian hats dating from the 20's/30's they were rather standard.
Of course, these days they've become so rare as not too many of those old hats have survived the firestorms of WWII, but that's actually a general problem with vintage wardrobe here in Germany. Clothes are so easily burned...
