Just a thought, but would anyone be interested in a couple of scans we did of period patterns?

We acquired a couple of authentic "utility" patterns - lingerie and a dress, plus I think I have a belt pattern on here somewhere from the 30s.

Being a curvy gal, I have a hard time finding vintage blouses or blouse patterns. So, I've decided to try my hand at adapting a modern blouse patterns. I have a bunch of the reprint Simplicity and Vogue patterns, but none of them have blouses. I'm looking for pics of either patterns or garments for a nice short-sleved blouse, bonus points for anything that doesn't have to be tucked in, ie peplum or some other treatment (still have that pregnancy pooch to hide).

You're looking for inspiration pics, right? Not modern patterns in print?

Here's some I had in my computer. All from the late 30's-early 40's. Hope they help. (BTW - 1940's short sleeves often reached nearly to the elbow - a nice plus if you don't love your upper arms.)

ALSO, check out the Sept. issue of Threads mag. The whole issue focuses on making vintage inspired pieces.

This blouse has nice radiating darts from the waistline. It has a side opening to keep it fitted even when untucked. Hard to see in the picture, but it also has multiple darts in the sleeve cap.

Sorry it's so teensy, but this blouse/jacket could be easy to reproduce with a modern pattern.

I have almost all of the modern reprints. There's only one 40's blouse and it has some weird pleats that I think would be unflattering to a very full bust.

The pics are great! Thanks! I have a pattern that is very similar to your blue blouse. If I add some gathers to the sleeve head (and the lovely cuff), it would look very similar.
Thanks, again!

Has anyone made up Simplicity 4044? It's the second suit pattern in LD's post or the pattern in the post where I quote her. I'm working on the jacket and it's not going together the same way as other vintage (or reprints) that I've made. So, now, I'm gettting suspicious of other elements in the pattern. I'd love to hear from others who have made this.

I only made the pants so far and they fit together fine and are reasonably flattering on those hips of mine. I've got the packet cut out, but other projects keep pushing it to the bottom of my pile.

Hey, I've heard a lot about that issue of Threads magazine. I looked for it at Hancocks and couldn't find it. Wear is it sold?

Does anyone have a modern, in-print pattern for a pencil skirt? Thanks!

I really like the skirt on the Simplicity 4047.

It's quick and easy. I've made it up twice now, which is a lot for me since I have so many patterns. The skirt does have more ease then I'm looking for, so I took in the sides a bit. The shirt on the pattern is also very nice and I think I'm going to make up the jacket come December or so. Whenever it gets nippy, or doesn't here in Dallas. lol

Good luck on it KamiKat. I'm sure yours is going to look great. I made mine out of black and white check gingham, which isn't the most slimming fabric, but it looks cool and retro. The color does take some fiddling around with, but that could have been because it was the first time I used facing. All my patterns before this used linings rather then facings. Oh well, it was a learning experience.

Oh, and thanks Snookie, I'll call the nearest one and see if they stock it.

has anyone made this one? It makes up really quickly. I cut it out last night and worked for 2hrs today and all I have left to do is install the zip and hem. The problem, though, is that I don't know what top to wear with it. I tried a regular button-front blouse and the collar looks funny. I tried a scoop neck T, but that looks funny. Any ideas? On the pattern front, it looks good with a turtleneck, but that doesn't work for summer.

I haven't tried it yet, but I SO want it. I went to Jo Ann's during one of the sale weekends at the beginning of the month and they didn't have it in yet and I missed the sales this weekend, darn it. Pleeeease post it when you finish.

I have found these at garge sales to list on ebay. How do you guys think would be the best way to do so? Like size groupings?

Are you planning on putting them on eBay? If so, here's what I like, grouping by size is a good way to go. I won't even look at patterns that either aren't my size or close to it. If I fall in love with a dress that is 4 sizes too small, I get very disappointed. If you group them by size, stick to one or two time periods. If I see a groups that is 4 size20s, one from the 40's, one from the 50's, 2 from the 70's, I don't want to pay a bunch of money only to throw away half the group.

I don;t even bother to get the 70's stuff. Maybe some earlier 60's but nothing I have is above that. I have some 30's to early 60's mostly 40's and 50's.

I agree. It really frustrates me to see a group of 5 patterns in 5 different sizes. I usually just won't buy them. I tend to like smaller groups, like 2 at a time. That way if I love one, I don't mind getting another even if I don't really like it. If I love one and hate three, it gets harder to justify. lol

However, if you have any especially interesting ones, you might get better prices selling those singly. Certain wedding and formal dresses can command surprisingly high bids, as can ladies western shirt patterns.

I echo the separating by size method. I hate it when I see a group of patterns and can only use one without have to grade up. If you do want different sizes in one lot make sure they are within a size or 2 of each other. Now I don't mind if the patterns come from wildly different eras, after all you never know when you'll start craving that maxi dress pattern.

Well I basically have two groups. One group was purchased from one lady and the other group was purchased from one lady. So within the two groups they are all like sizes. So I will try to maybe do dresses with dress and skirts with skirts. ect.
