Schott Per70 fit help

Hey everyone,

Newer lurker and first time poster. I’m trying to decide on the Schott Per70 and could use some fit advice from people who own it.

My measurements:

• Height: 6’1”
• Chest: 43”
• Waist: 37”
• Shoulders: 18.5”
• Arm length: 25.5”

Here are the Per70 measurements Schott sent me:

• Medium: Chest 22” / Sweep 20” / Back 26” / Shoulder 17.75” / Arm 26”
• Large: Chest 23.5” / Sweep 21.5” / Back 26” / Shoulder 18.75” / Arm 26.38”

I’ve already got a few jackets (Simmons Bilt, Aero, Thedi) that fit great. My Simmons Bilt is my biggest jacket and it’s smaller than Schott’s per 70 large in chest and sweep, and that’s my go-to for layering. I can’t really picture going any bigger without it looking silly. On the other hand, Schott’s Per70 Medium would be smaller than anything I own. Maybe doable, not sure, but I’m worried the smaller shoulders would look bad. Large, on the other hand, would end up being the biggest jacket in my collection, which I’m not sure I want either. I’m kind of between sizes it seems.

For those who have the Per70:

• Do you find it runs big, small, or true to size?
• How much does it stretch or break in with wear?
• Any quirks in the way it fits/feels?

Would love to hear your thoughts on medium vs. large, or see some fit pics if you’ve got them.

I don't think Perfectos are the best choice for layering.

That said, why are you looking at the PER70 in particular? There are other jackets on the same pattern block that come in numbered sizing rather than alpha. Those would be the ideal fix to your sizing question.

The 42 in a 613S/SH is exactly in between the medium and large of the PER70, for example.

One more thing; an additional inch, or even a few inches, of PTP is basically invisible in wear.

Thank you! Appreciate this. Looking at the per70 mainly because I like the look of the leather. I once was a metal guy (drummer for 30 years) and occasionally bust out the look. Although, I’m mostly in Dad mode dress these days. Anyway, looking at all the spec sheets Denise sent, it also seems the Per70 is slightly longer than say the 618 or 613, but shorter in the torso and arms, than the 519, so a nice balance there.

I think you’re right on the alpha sizing, if I can’t get this to work, I’ll likely switch to 618 or 613. I’m not a rider and at my height with a long torso and short legs 25 inch cuts don’t flatter me as much as a 26 inch cut. Also stylistically I am untucked more than tucked most of the time, which for me lends itself better to a longer cut.

Agree on the layering, this jacket wouldn’t be for that. This would be t-shirt only under it, which will give me some room.

Have you handled the jacket in person?

I wouldn’t say the the leather of the PER70 is more interesting than that of the 613S/SH. (These are different jackets from the standard 613 by the way; they are basically the pre-80s 613 pattern.)

Fit and cut wise, the 519 and PER70 are basically both the 613S pattern, but with in-between sizing due to the alpha system.

Based on your requirements, I think the 118 in size 40 would be the ticket. It measures like a 613/618 in 42 (so in between M/L of the PER70) with the extra length you’re after. The leather has that full and pliable feel that the PER series does, rather than the stiff quality of the steer and horse on the 613/618 jackets.

Are you in the US? You could order two sizes and return one. If you have a 43” chest though I’m surprised you would consider a jacket with a 44” chest. I haven’t tried on a per70, but I have worn the 613s and I personally prefer the pattern and fit of the 613/618/118. I would also recommend checking out the 118. Very comfortable and easy to wear. I’m 6’1” with 44” chest and I have the 118 in 42. I don’t think I could go any smaller in it. But I guess everyone is a different shape and can prefer a different fit.

Thanks! Yeah, it’s looking more and more like the Medium in Per70, or alpha sizes from Schott in general won’t work, based on the feedback here. But I’m in the US, so I can definitely try and return it if it doesn’t fit. That’s a good suggestion. You guys have been super helpful. I was more or less wondering if the cut may grant some wiggle room; for example, my Thedi Phenix has a chest at 22.75 and fits slim but very comfortably. My Hooch Hauler has the same chest size but because the armholes and arms are bigger gives me more wiggle room, it feels bigger than the Thedi even though they are the same measurements in the core areas (shoulders, chest, sleeve length). I have zero experience with Schott perfectos so this has been super informative so far.
