This hat just arrived, courtesy of Rick's elves. They definitely hadn't been drinking when they finished this beauty up!

This is a natural color beaver body with navy ribbon. It is a shameless copy of one Rick made a few months back, except for the size. It is a 7-3/4 hat with a 3" brim and almost 5-1/4" crown, measured at the front of the teardrop crease. Rick really came through with the tall, boxy crown that I like to balance the wide brim I prefer. The felt has a really nice, soft finish to it, although the felt itself is a little stiff because this is a mid-weight Western body to help the wide brim hold its shape. We had discussed this before, and Rick knows I like a stiffer felt than the vintage dress hats have.

I'm not a flashy dresser (no Hawaiian shirts in my closet!), so the subdued brown/gray and navy colors will really blend well with a lot of what I wear. Rick's "Trekker" hat has become my go-to outdoors hat, and I can easily see this one becoming my "casual trip to town" hat. My wife is gone with the grandkids for a quick Christmas trip, so is it wrong to wear this around inside the house to "break it in"? ;)

I hope everyone has a great weekend, especially those in the path of the "Great East Coast Blizzard of '18"

It's a very fine looking hat and a great job by Rick. Very versatile with those colours and the heather look of the felt. The frayed bow is a cool touch. Lovely!

We keep our house on the cool side and we are in a cold snap (just a touch below freezing) so I wear one of my hats around the house to keep my head warm.

Thanks, everyone. It did turn out great, but I did nothing except recognize that, "Hey, that hat looks great" and order one just like it! Rick deserves all the credit.

Belfastboy, YES! That's exactly what I'm doing, keeping my head warm. Thank you.

Thanks for the kind words, gentlemen.

That hat looks even better on you than in the other photos, and that’s saying something! The 3” brim is perfect for your hat too. I’ve been trying to get a few vintage pieces, but Rick’s work is so nice I might need to get back in queue. I’m eyeing Silvermist, navy, and now I’m looking at shamelessly copying your natural with navy ribbon.

And then there’s our blue smoke and limestone project that I hope works out too.

Thank you! The color is indeed more true on the head shots; the photos on the rhododendron have the felt looking lighter and more uniform than it is. I really love the subtle, warm, heathered brown/gray color of this felt. In person it looks more like the studio shots Rick made.

Oh, I need no excuse to wear my hats in the house. Whenever I am not lying down, taking a shower, or working on a patient, I have a hat on. Ana made fun of me for a couple of weeks, but now she's used to it.

Hey, Rick. I know you said you aren't taking new orders until next year, but that doesn't necessarily mean I can't ask for a place in the queue right now, before further orders come in, does it? [emoji6]

Funny you should ask Max. I actually took the liberty of putting your future hat in the queue for the coming year. Sort of a "just in case" kind of thing. I'm hoping that my more than persistent efforts to do more business with FEPSA will pay off with some interesting hat bodies. I'll send you some pics along the way and we'll see if we can come up with something that will suit you.

I want one just like Regan's, Rick. With proportions appropriate to my body size, of course [emoji2], and in the closest colors to Regan's you can find.
