Still very fair prices for the quality of work received, in my opinion. I can't imagine anyone not being pleased with a hat they order from Rick.

EDIT: I quoted Rick's price sheet but it didn't show up in the reply for some reason, just in case my random statement confused anyone. Sorry about that!

Yeow! That Winchester would be too blue for me! I much prefer the grey with blue tones.

Winchester makes a powered blue too, but it’s much bluer.

I think of blue Smoke as a grey with blue tones rather than the more common grey with brown tones.

I think Limestone will be the second run and Dove Grey the third. ;)
Maybe Rick will take on an apprentice.

The plan, as of now, is to open a hat studio in early 2020 upon my retirement. Not a retail space per se, but rather a working studio that will be open to walk in customers. We'll see how that goes.

-6 for Rick
-2 for Brent
-1 for Max

We’re already down to only needing 27 more.

I am willing to go in for 6 limestone hat bodies at Winchester prices plus a little extra for Rick's trouble of arranging. I have all the equipment to make a fine hat, not necessarily the time though

A couple of questions, if y'all will humor me, please:

The Winchester Blue Smoke pictures, on my computer, look an awful lot like Akubra's Moonstone color. Can anyone with both felts confirm that or differentiate between the two?

With the interest in "lot" purchases, I assume it has to be all the same type of body, i.e., dress-weight rabbit, Western-weight beaver, etc.? What type of felt are most folks interested in? Sorry if I've missed the obvious somehow, but I haven't seen this mentioned.

Thanks, y'all take care!

My interest is purely dress weight in 100% Beaver. In fact if we are discussing Blue Smoke, Limestone, and Dove I am interested in all 3 colors as long as they are at different times.

@humanshoes
I could do 6 hat bodies each of the 3 colors listed above in 100% beaver dress weight.

I sure wish somebody would, but I don't think it's going to be me. I'd want to keep them in a cold storage unit just to keep the moths away from my investment. I bought a few pearl gray hat bodies from a US supplier that actually came to me with moth damage. They were beautiful otherwise and now that color is no longer available. Sheesh!

I don't want to rain on anyones parade but Winchester has been trying to duplicate for me my Dove, Confederate, AND Blue Smoke for most of this year without success. They are having real issues with their dying processes so when my supply runs out, it will probably be the last of those colors. Jeff keeps trying but failing to get the colors right. I have to discontinue Dove for this reason. I'm out of stock and have been for months. I only have a few of the other two so when they are gone, I will have to discontinue unless Jeff gets the process down. You might hold off on your mass order.

Thanks for the heads up on that Art. I'll be taking my beautiful old blue/gray Stetson St. Regis Homburg to them in February to inquire about replicating that color for a special run so I hope they can work out their dying processes. I would think that they'd be falling all over themselves to bring that vintage color back and make it a stock item, but maybe adding another stock color to the lineup would be cost prohibitive for them. In the meantime, I hope these good folks that want those special colors contact you and get them while they can.

This hat just arrived, courtesy of Rick's elves. They definitely hadn't been drinking when they finished this beauty up!

This is a natural color beaver body with navy ribbon. It is a shameless copy of one Rick made a few months back, except for the size. It is a 7-3/4 hat with a 3" brim and almost 5-1/4" crown, measured at the front of the teardrop crease. Rick really came through with the tall, boxy crown that I like to balance the wide brim I prefer. The felt has a really nice, soft finish to it, although the felt itself is a little stiff because this is a mid-weight Western body to help the wide brim hold its shape. We had discussed this before, and Rick knows I like a stiffer felt than the vintage dress hats have.

I'm not a flashy dresser (no Hawaiian shirts in my closet!), so the subdued brown/gray and navy colors will really blend well with a lot of what I wear. Rick's "Trekker" hat has become my go-to outdoors hat, and I can easily see this one becoming my "casual trip to town" hat. My wife is gone with the grandkids for a quick Christmas trip, so is it wrong to wear this around inside the house to "break it in"? ;)

I hope everyone has a great weekend, especially those in the path of the "Great East Coast Blizzard of '18"
