I think the fit looks great. As for sleeve length, a sweater or hoodie on a cooler day would probably do the job. Personally, I'd rather have it be a little roomier on warmer days so that I can layer up on cooler ones. That is, unless you already have a jacket for those cooler days. :D

Imo the fit looks great. I don't think you can wear a size smaller. Sleeves will shorten with wear. I wear my half belts a little bit longer as the period correct fit. If you feel the jacket is to big try the Premier 1930 HB pattern. It is like a size between.
Here are some picture of my 1930 HBs. 1 Seal Vicenza, 1 Cordovan FQHH and the black is a Premier 1930 HB FQHH. All in size 40.
I only wear a t-shirt but i am able to layer a sweater.

I think the fit looks pretty damn good, the length looks perfect to me in both the sleeves and the body. Ultimately it's all on what you're after, could you size down? Maybe but at that point you might be wanting a half size up. I think Fanch said it best, at some point, a little room is OK. When you don't have any it's sheer misery.
I'm sure we are all guilty of over examining the fit. It's taken a long time for me to get there but these days I want a trim fit that also allows a little room to layer. Can't do the sausage casing fit and be uncomfortable just for the sake of appearance. Mine in CXL midnight blue size 42" 26.5" back, 27" sleeve

That jacket is just flat-out badass.....I think I'm just going to roll with the fit as is. Thanks for the perspective, I was definitely getting a bit lost in the weeds by over examining the fit. I know it's just a jacket but it's also like 10 x more than I've ever paid for a jacket. My wife has been really great juggling some finances to budget for this and I would be devastated if it comes out all jacked up. deep breaths

I really like this Jason, while you could theoretically go down a size perhaps, if you intend to layer under it (like we do in Iowa) you may indeed like the little extra room. That's almost exactly how my steerhide 30's HB in black fits. In fact, if you like the leather and the lining, I believe you can keep the fit jacket and not have to order. The closer fit options are great with a Scheene or a Cafe Racer. 30's HB and Highwayman I like a bit more room. Just my $.02 :)

As to your last post, you are working with the best - Carrie will help out well and support you through the process! And yes, it's a deep "suck in the breath" the first time you order or buy one of these...still is after a few as well.

That was way cool of you to post these pics on my thread. It also solidified some of my decisions...that Cordovan FQHH is really top shelf. Also, since I plan on a thicker lining, I'm not sure the Premier will work for me (helluva nice jacket thought). Thanks for sharing - JASON

Are you going with CXL cordovan for the hide?

Definitely. I know I'll be giving up some comfort, suppleness, & flexibility but its worth it to me to gain in durability and ruggedness. I'm freakishly tough on clothes and run through a Carhartt Sandstone jacket about every 4 years. I expect to rub some people here the wrong way but I fully intend to test the premise of these designs: that they are based on working man jackets of 80 years ago (I actually really really liked the Longshoremen jacket as it closely matches my Carhartt but the wife nixed it)

You won't be disappointed in the CXL cordovan. In my opinion it's the nicest hide you can get from Aero. I've got a one year old bootlegger in Cordo steer and the depth of color and patina it's developed even in that short time is quite amazing. I also think you'll notice a little neater feeling in terms of fit due to the initial stiffness and rigid nature of CXL. Can't wait to see your finished jacket. Savor the next few weeks of waiting!
