I knew you gals would like these. I want to make a costume too. I did tap for a few years. Danced ballet nearly all my life, so worn my share of interesting costumes, but oh! One of those satin numbers would just be the business!

When I was little, I always wanted to be one of the dance troupe girls in Bugsy Malone. Guess I know now where I got it from. ;)

i was a ballet girl too miss sis... but secretly wanted to abscond to tap classes

i was always designing/ sewing from a young age so the costume side of tap will be the easy part...
interesting when you suggest you might have inherited the dance "gene" from your nana....it was only when i was older i discovered that my great grandmother was an incredible self taught seamstress, she designed & made almost all my great aunt & grandmothers' dresses during the 20's, 30's & 40's - all of which were incredible.... its so wonderful to think that creative talents from our very own vintage heritage are passed down to us and are continued passions...

I know many of you visit Shorpy.com on a regular basis, but just in case for those who don't - a FANTASTIC color image of two 1942 working ladies, Long Beach, California. Spectacular all the way around.

Thanks. It's the kind of eye candy one likes to return to again and again. I hadn't saved it to favorites and couldn't remember what the site was called.

Your grandmother is stunning and what a beautiful wedding dress.

:eek:fftopic: I know I love that dress. I wish it hadn't gotten left behind in Cuba when the family left. But my boyfriends mom (both of his parents are Cuban) Had a very similar dress for here wedding that was a copy of her mother's dress, from the island, which I might add look nearly identical to my Abuela's. Anyway this dress maker that his mom used was the same woman who made his grandmother's dress in Cuba. The woman was in Miami at the time. I don't know if she is still alive but if she is when it comes my turn to get married I am really thinking about going with that picture and asking her to recreate it for me.

Gorgeous! Simply gorgeous. How is it that these women had the most flawless skin?! And I'm officially in love with that lipstick shade.
Well I can speak for my grand mother... It's genetic, my father has that skin, his brothers all have it and so do all of my parents kids.

I found this on someone else's blog so if it belongs to someone from here, my apologies, but this "everyday" woman is too fantastic not to post.

11-17-1942, San Francisco PD Mugshot of "Tanya Williams."

and thanks to Blondie - more about Ms. Williams found here.

Seems she is an "entertainer" and due to new "blue laws" in San Francisco, she was working at the Melody Lane club and she and the club manager were arrested for putting on an "indecent show."

I love the internet!

She is fabulous Inky !!!!!!!
Wonder where she is now ? I wonder what became of her ?

the best i can make out is she lived at 87 Taylor Street.

she was 23 (or maybe 26 or 28 - perhaps someone with better photo software can figure that out). She was 5 feet, 3 1/2 inches tall and weighed 106 pounds (tiny thing!). Blue eyes, Blonde hair.

A woman just trying to make a living and hopefully not mixed up in something worse.

I have a friend that looks almost EXACTLY like her named Jane.

really? aside from loving her hair - i am completely enamored of her lips, even though I know I would look RIDICULOUS like that. :eek:fftopic:

but that doesn't mean I won't try it hahahahaha.

i'm glad you like her, ladies! There was something about her that really spoke to me. Bet her life was interesting to say the very least.
