Engineer Boots, Harness Boots...

Got the Lofgrens in yesterday, totally blown away. The leather is incredibly thick, thicker than anything I've seen on a pair of boots. Its just over 3mm and the lining adds another 1mm or so, making the boot quite stiff. Took a while to get on but they fit like a dream. I love the marbling on the horsebutt, and the deep brown has a ton of depth. The dual JL and S&S labels are a nice touch as well.

I ordered my Lofgren’s engineers from S&S yesterday. I can not wait to see how they hold up to the punishment I bought my boots through.
Nice, what color did you go with? I have 2 pair from S&S. Their customer service might very well be the best in the business and I’ve found their sizing advice spot on.

Black. I never actually spoke with anyone at S&S. I reached out to John himself and he answered all my questions. I have to say, for the man himself to answer my questions I would spend double the money. You can’t put a price on customer service like that.

Agree. I’ve asked him questions on Insta and heard back the same day. Great operation. I have the black as well. They show brown undertones pretty quickly.

I treat my things like they owe me money on a daily basis, gas, oil, coolant, you name it all over the boots everyday. I work them hard. What size do you wear? Are you the one always posting 10.5’s for sale?

Woah - hold the presses. You build these? That is amazing!

It this something you intend to keep doing? If so, we should talk...

Very nice pair of Engineers, I take it you have had practice....

Thanks! Yeah, I made them. They are the fourth pair I've made. The first ones were purely for learning and while wearable and decent, they weren't really what I hoped to achieve. Also used cheaper materials for the learning process. Mind you, it was my first attempt. LOL!!

The second ones were a significant improvement in materials and construction. Much more proud of how they turned out. Natural Horween CXL horsebutt and Japanese buckles. Tweaked the design based on what I learned.

Third pair was essentially the same design of the second but changed my welting technique and did a bit more refining.

The fourth ones you see here used a different last which I customized to create a sleeker profile and further refinements in the design. A more shapely shaft, a bit more rise for the heel, flatter toe. Nailed down how I wanted everything stitched.

Yes, I'm planning on continuing. Further refining the design just a bit. Getting my custom last perfected and then manufactured. Have a few interested people for orders already.

Everything has been hand cut, hand lasted, hand welted. The last pair has no cork filler. All leather footbed. Quality materials selected. Currently, one of a kind!!!

^^ Fantastic! Sounds like similar construction as Nick's boots (or White's too) that are in Spokane, WA, however both of them are not as known for Engineer style boots. I have incoming a pair of John Lofgren's, which will be the first "quality" pair of Engineers I have owned.

I found a $75.00 Singer leather/canvas/saddle style sewing machine at our local Habitat store. I have not yet bought it, I may this weekend, just as I would like to try my hand making some things out of leather. This is starting to inspire me to pick up something like that, and tinker around a bit. Would be a great winter/basement project.

I would enjoy seeing some photos of how you made those, heck, do a thread on your boots - they are more than worth it!
