Me again, posting up a few pics of my new Addict AB-01H-CL horsehide engineer boots in black teacore. That's a mouthful.
I have been hunting down a pair of engineers. Tried on a few pairs of the new Red Wing heritage in 12 then 11. I did the whole biometric foot analysis and I measure in at an 11 1/2 with a D width and a low to mid instep depending on the foot. They recommended the 11 or 1/2 size down. First impressions I couldn't get past what I can only state as poorly constructed. The heel has an oversized heel stack that isn't even with the heel cap? One of the boots I saw had the stack at an angle which looks really bad. The leather felt cheap and the stitching is almost pulled through the leather so as to appear that it would unravel.
Anyway I read some threads that the Lofgrens are just too roomy in the heels and mid. I have a narrow heel so those were out. I was then thinking about the Mister Lou's. But that's a 8 month wait and the guy from Rose Anvil said he got a pair that was mismatched left to right despite his professing that he asked them to change that back from his original order.
I'm sure most who have looked for a pair can't find their size in stock and I was no different. So Youtube to the rescue. I find a video about a Japanese craftsman constructing a jacket. Which just happened to be Addict Clothing. Had a look on their site and found they did boots and they had one last pair of horsehide black teacores from their CL last in my size. So I took that as a hint and made the purchase on Saturday.
Communication was good and they let me know they were on a Holiday so they wouldn't ship till the following Tuesday. Which they did, and I got them Wednesday. Crazy fast actually from Japan.
First impressions, the look and construction appear to be amazing. Really well packaged, very pleasing leather about as good as I could expect. I try them on and with a bit of persuasion I get them on the first time. They were slightly snug though. I can feel the heel counter seam on my right foot a bit more than I'd like but it hasn't actually cost me any soreness or even redness. It's become flatter now as I wear them and I don't really feel it any more. I've only been wearing them at work now for two days but they're already finding their way around my feet and my stride is improving with them. It took amount to figure out my step with them as they aren't exactly like the Adidas I normally wear. When I'm at my desk they feel quite perfect. But that's sitting. When I stand they have really good support, unlike any that I've ever had. I have some Luchese boots, a pair of custom Blackjacks and some Chippewa loggers to compare to. These are by far the best of the lot. They are stiff for sure, and it takes a moment to settle when I put them on. But I really like them and I feel like they're only getting better feeling. I didn't bother with the supplied insole. Have a look at let me know what you think. I think they're about as good as I could ask for at this price point.
