3/8" is a very small curl. I use my 1/2 or 5/8" one the most. And as with most tools it takes a while to master using it.I received my brim curling tool today, it is a 3/8" curl, iused the tool and the curl is smoother than the curl that I put in by hand, however it seems to be a bit more almost flat. The wife wanted a couple of small dimples in the front, so I did as requested. Here are some photos of the hat after using the brim curling tool.
I will add a little shellac to the brim and use the curling tool again tomorrow and if the curl is still almost flat I will be putting a curl in the brim using my thumb and index finger, my wife just informed me that she likes my brim curl better than what the curling tool has allowed to me do. So Much for fancy tools.
I have one of Marc DeCou block spinners that I use a lot now so I ordered another one from his store on Etsy.
