I had a Fox Creek motorcycle jacket that was a mold magnet. I had to wipe it down every day. After loosing the battle for 6 months I sold it.
Once the mold spores get imbedded in the leather they are difficult to stop. I think it was just a bad batch of leather.
My house is kept at 35% humidity. I fought a tough battle but the spores won.

I mean I don’t know why you would buy a jacket that’s already moldy and restore it? Just save up your money for a better jacket or buy another used jacket that isn’t moldy. I’d rather buy a brand new polyester jacket than a moldy leather one imo.

Hello! Can anyone tell me what model of Schott this is, approximate year of manufacture? There is no tag with the model number. Thank you very much in advance!

Mold can be successfully dealt with using generous amounts of Vinegar from what I heard of here on TFL. Maybe a bit of soda too to push it deeper in..

Without the pocket tag it’s more difficult to determine age. I do know that Schott used the Leathercraft care tag until 2008, then switched to Arrow. So it’s at least prior to 2008, to me that jacket and Perfecto tag look to be in the 2000’s. I believe the model is a 641HH

I heard that in the 2000s they used felt between the leather and the lining. Does this mean that this jacket has felt and how can I check? Thanks!

I have heard/read that certain Schott jackets had the felt but I cannot speak on that as I have never seen or encountered one. Have you tried a Google search or searches on this site?

Unfortunately, my independent search yielded no results. All that I found with such a tag "Perfecto horsehide" had a non-removable lining. Apparently, these are 641xx, which are currently sold on the official website. I tried to ask the Schott representatives, but I never received an answer.

I am in no way an expert but I know enough to be dangerous. I have owned probably 10-12 Schott jackets anywhere from the 1980’s to my newest one which was made in 2018. I can say with some certainty that of those I have never seen the felt backing. I just don’t remember what I heard about that construction method. Seems like it was short lived and also understanding that the 641HH is one of Schott’s top tier offerings I would be shocked if it was cheaply made. Do you own this jacket? Or trying to buy it?

This jacket is on its way to me, I paid $400 but I will have the option to return it when I receive it. According to the seller, it was worn less than 10 times. This is my first time buying a horse jacket and I do not have enough experience.

It’s good to have the return option . I had the model 141 in naked cowhide (which is the same pattern as the 641) that was spectacular but I lost a bunch of weight and it was too big. Post pics when you get it. Schott 141 pictured

Thanks! I don't (want to) consider cracks, grain or creasing as patina, but I'll share if I see any pictures. I've seen people both here on the Classifieds as well on Ebay announcing jackets "with amazing patina" that to me simply looked old, I just didn't share them in the moment and just asked as that the question went through my mind when I saw an actual patina (or what I did consider it so).

Even querying now I've struggled to find one that's lightened, all other results were darkened. I did find this one:

To me it just looks old and beaten. But then again, I might just be wrong and simply found something I don't like.
Beautiful. To me that jacket is beautifully aged!

My vegetable-tanned and hand-dyed cocoa buffalo leather jacket from Thedi is only one week old, but it's already rubbing off on light shirt collars. I wiped the collar of the jacket several times with a dry white cotton cloth, and the cloth picked up quite a bit of color.

q15.jpeg

Will the jacket always bleed, or will this subside over time? Does this kind of color transfer often happen with hand-dyed leather? Neither my cognac/tan buffalo leather jacket from Thedi nor my Chromexcel-tanned leather jacket from Aero has ever left any color on shirt collars.

Will this get better on its own, or is there a way to speed up the process?

Thanks in advance for any further insights!

Very interesting. Did you call the manufacturer and ask them? Is it possible that the jacket wasn’t sealed properly? Yeah man I would call them immediately…
