Advice on Engineer boots

Does anyone have any experience or thoughts on shorter engineer boots? Example is a 7" Chippewa attached.

Any worn pics etc? Trying to source my first pair and unsure whether to go for the shorter or longer ones. Generally would like them for casual wear but also to wear on the bike but I'm wondering if the taller ones are going to be too much of a step up from my usual boots to feel comfortable.

That's the thing, they're expensive to get into when you're not sure if you'll like them (which is where I'm at). Think I need to find a cheaper option first to test the waters for me...

But those do look nice !

I’ve got 8 pairs of engineer boots so I’m set for a while (famous last words, right?) but if I were starting out I’d try bright shoemakers. They’ve got a couple of different lasts (sleeker vs chunky) and cheaper vs name brand leathers. They are priced pretty well. If you find you’re into them you can place an mto order for a new pair.
FWIW to the outside world they don’t look any different to any other boot since they’re mostly under your pants. Only you can tell how awesome you are with your tall boots on.

You may want to consider Crush on retro engineer boots. Pretty cheaply priced.

Engineers require precise sizing because of the lack of laces... and the instep strap I've found to be unreliable (couldn't even tighten it on my Wesco). Regarding short engineers, if you're only wearing them under trousers they are fine. It's not like anyone will see them and it will cut down on weight.

Best thing you can do is try a few on, with Wesco there are at least some retailers with stock pairs so if you find one you like you can get it without any wait. I will say you shouldn't rely on your lace up sizing though, I went with the same size as my laces ups for a Wesco engineer and found it too loose.

Although I own a couple of Sendra's I never owned an engineer boot by them. You got me thinking now...

I've owned 3 and the 13416 is by far the best. The others I would not recommend. I saw some places in DE even have the black version back in stock in my size. Seriously considering it since I've been wearing a 41 for many years now despite it being a bit too small for me.
