2026 A-2 Fit Comparison: The Real McCoy’s (RMC) vs. Rainbow Country (RC)

My Specs:

  • Height: 6'2" (187 cm)
  • Weight: 175 lbs (78 kg)
  • Build: Slim/Tall
Background: I found that brands like Buzz Rickson’s and Toys McCoy tend to lean toward an "Asian Boxy Fit." Even in a size 44, the back length is only around 25.6 inches (65 cm), which is far too short for my height. In comparison, The Real McCoy’s (RMC) and Rainbow Country (RC) are much more accommodating for taller frames.

The Real McCoy’s (RMC)

The most stunning aspect of RMC is their leather selection—it is incredibly consistent and beautiful. The collar shape is also a standout; it’s very sharp and holds its form perfectly.

However, I ran into a bit of a dilemma during the purchasing process. Last month, I tried on a size 42 at the RMC Osaka store. That specific jacket felt particularly stiff—perhaps it was brand new or just a tougher hide—and the fit felt quite tight, with the length being just a bit short. An experienced older staff member recommended I size up, so I ultimately purchased the size 44.

After getting home, I started to have second thoughts, feeling that the shoulder width was a bit too wide for my frame. However, These Japanese reproduction brands have a strict no-return, no-exchange policy. Interestingly, I recently tried on another size 42 at the RMC Tokyo store, and it felt much better—not nearly as restrictive as the one in Osaka.

Rainbow Country (RC)

RC definitely offers the most "modern" silhouette. Since their jackets come with a slight pre-distressed/softened finish, the leather felt significantly more supple and comfortable right off the rack. While the leather consistency doesn't quite match RMC’s level, their official measurements seem to align better with my body type.

My only regret was that the first shop I visited only had a size 42 in stock, so I couldn't do a side-by-side comparison with a 44 immediately. I only managed to try on the size 44 later at a different location.

Photos for Reference: I have included photos of the size 42 and 44 from both brands below.

Note: In the rear-view photo, I am intentionally pulling the jacket down to show the maximum length. In normal wear, the wool knits would naturally sit higher on the waist.

RMC 44 gives a bit more modern of a look, doesn't look bad imo, but more casual and more modern styling. I think I prefer the 42 on you though. I agree with the commenter above though, think the Rainbow Country in 42 fits you the best.

The problem with the Rainbow Country design is that there's too much excess fabric on the back. The RMC version looks better.

Im planning to buy this A2 Realmccoys leather jacket
Has anyone ever seen anything like this before?
It has a talon zipper and the word "Sample" in the lining. Could anyone please give me some information about it? For example, what year was it manufactured, what is the product code, and is the quality of the sample exactly the same as the retail version?

42 looks good on you. Very timely post. I've been curious about RC A2 for a while now. I have a RMC A2 but the leather on the RC looks way nicer and textured. Deeper color too!
