Punk music was related to Conceptual art. The idea was that anyone could afford a cheap electric guitar and amp, and if you studied the basic chords you could write and perform your own music. In other words, the guy who wrote Johnny B. Goode didn't have to go to Juilliard. If you wanted to make...
I just noticed that Orvis.com has brought back their Bandera jacket after a ten-year hiatus. Although I'm not at all a fan of leather blazers, this one's made of goat, and there's something very attractive about the design. Right before I discovered this forum I almost ordered one, but they'd...
Unbelievable. We were 100+ miles from the eye and still got 110 mph winds. They actually tore the top off an African tree in my yard: not the branches, but the whole top half of the tree! We can only be grateful it wasn't worse. Thanks for the good wishes.
After losing our power (and air-conditioning) last week during the storm, and having to either sit in a sweltering house or sit outside and get eaten alive by mosquitoes (and every other kind of bug in creation), I'll never complain about the cold again. I'd like to get myself a Viking helmet...
Fanch, have you tried out the stretcher gizmo yet? We just got our power back yesterday, so wearing (or even thinking about wearing) the heavy jeans was out of the question because of the unbelievable heat here. I'm giving them another couple of weeks of wearing around the house and then it's...
I remember those shirts well and had a few myself. This was around 1970. They had buttons sewn on the front and you just slipped them over your head like a t-shirt. One of those and a pair of wine-colored velvet flares and you were all set. Purple snakeskin boots, too, with crimson heels.
It's important to remember that leprechauns are not like the essentially good-hearted elves but really malicious little bastards that appeared after a jug of poteen or so. Imagine a whole troop of the above marching between your boots and the turf fire.
That would be fantastic to watch as it broke in. Imagine it after five years of constant wear. I really like the Thedi forest green and keep seeing it paired with the amber in the BL style.
Thank you all for the good wishes. We may still try and make a run for it. The weird thing about this storm, and any storm, is that you really have no idea where it will go right up until the last minute. I'm thinking that the way things look now this place will be a mess for some time, so it...
Thanks very much. My son and I were going to leave last night, but the reports on the highway back-ups were terrible. So, we spent the day putting up the shutters and getting supplies. Now all we can do is wait and pray. Thankfully, my wife is up north with her mother. We all hope it misses by...
The thing is that one of the reasons you married her is because you respected her opinion (she chose you, right?), so you kind of have to seriously consider what she says. Then, of course, you're free to completely ignore it - - at your peril.
When I was scanning the Florsheim site I noticed they're having a 125th anniversary celebration, part of which are some styles dating from 1907. One such style is a two-tone lace-up boot in silver and black that looks a bit like boots and spats. They're also Goodyear-welted Horween Chromexcel...
I'm surprised to see the Kenmore in tan grain. I was looking for them a short time ago and there seemed to be a shortage at the factory. I'll never understand why Florsheim, with one of the most solid reputations on the market, hasn't given itself an upgrade with more leather soles and Goodyear...
You start by narrowing down your list: The Greedo's way up there; Edward's suggestion re the BL in Natural (Moonshiner, maybe?); my personal contribution would be the Thedi that's similar to a Snake Plissken in Cognac (two-tone with black?). I hope I've made this easier for you.
