Eric,
I remember all too well the dark day when you posted all those shots of your wingtip collection. They sent me spiraling down the wingtip rabbit-hole, much to the detriment of my bank account. Let's just hope my son can pay his law-school tuition next semester.
It's really a crap shoot. I've done it a couple of times: once it worked perfectly and the other time the result was similar to what viclip describes above. My advice is to either live with it or sell.
They're the ones, and I just saw them going for about $280. Now the agony begins. I just last week got the Rand Lace-ups in dark brown to complete my collection (with tan and black) because whenever I find a style that is perfect for me in every way I feel compelled to grab them while I still...
That looks perfect on you. Jacket sizing's a bitch: as I said above, I'm the exact size and weight as Brettafelt, but I'm normally a 38. My Aero LHB's a 38 and couldn't fit more perfectly, but for this one I'd want a 42? This is why God made Thurston Bros.
Just my opinion, but I think the 40 looks better on you: the shoulders look absolutely perfect and the fit's nice and trim. How does it feel? I'm asking because I'm almost exactly your height and weight. Nice jacket.
Harness boots, particularly Frye's, were very popular back in the '60's and '70's, but I was never too crazy about the squared-off toe. They've got a new style, though, that's been haunting my dreams called the John Addison (I mentioned it elsewhere recently). Next time I see it on sale I might...
Thanks for confirming my suspicions. I'd always thought oxblood was a fairly dark brownish-red, but my new McAllisters are almost a dark mauve. I received a couple of admiring comments from my students about them: I hadn't realized they were keeping track of my footwear.
I recently bought a pair of AE's McAllisters in oxblood and was wondering how much of a difference there is with the Burgandys. There are also the Chile color and the Merlot. It would be interesting to see them all side by side. I also have a pair of the Leiden weaves in Chile, and it's much...
Despite what I said above about Frye, I keep finding myself going back and looking at their John Addison boots in black. They're usually in the $450 range, but every now and then I see them at about $325. Very tempting.
I'm with you on the Fryes. I still wear my Jackson Engineers that I got 20 years ago and two pairs of the Rand Lace-ups that are very nice and comfortable, but it seems like you have to pay top dollar these days for what used to be their more affordable and well-made styles. They also seem to...
They just came out with a new shirt style this week called the "rugged" look. I think it's not quite so fitted, has two chest pockets, and, IMO, a weird stand-up collar - the kind you usually see on tight-fitting shirts. I wish somebody'd come out with more '50's-style, flat- lying spread...
That's one of the most beautiful jackets I've ever seen. Just wondering: to what extent was the hide darkened when you first received it? I remember when Aero came out with their tan hide last year (?) a couple of guys didn't like the way it picked up dirt. I love the way it looks. Anybody want...
Either the Allen Edmonds factory seconds or the outlet. I recently bought a beautiful pair of the Jefferson model in black. Very nice and very comfortable. The problem with J&M is that few of their styles can be resoled: it's really distressing to have a perfectly nice pair of shoes that you...
