The diaries of Count Harry Kessler. They come in two volumes: Journey to the Abyss (1880-1918) and Berlin in Lights (1918-1937). I don't know how to praise these diaries highly enough: they are a ring-side seat to European history and culture from one of the most intelligent, humane, and...
Yeah, but when that wind comes tearing through the Verazzano straits early in the morning you wish you could just go back to a nice, warm bed. We used to have to wait for the bus on Shore Road in Bay Ridge. I still shiver when I think of it.
My first couple of Akubras I held over the steaming kettle, heart beating wildly, and then laboriously "crafted" their shapes. Now, as an old hand, I just use the Edward technique and shape 'em raw. What I've found is that the hat seems to know what it wants to do anyway and will resist anything...
That's a very honest and accurate response. I have the Fed IV in both finishes and the difference isn't notable, but the Deluxe feels slightly silkier. The real differences lie more in the amount of starch that went into a specific batch, which seem to vary quite a bit but has nothing, as far as...

Thor, I envy you for your opportunity to wear such a nice jacket as part of your daily uniform. Isn't it getting a bit too cold out on the harbor this time of year for leather, though?
You might want to take a look at the Thurston Bros. threads on this forum. They have some very nice photos of Aero's various leathers. One reason I mention them is that my Aero LHB in CXL HH is brown but has very nice reddish highlights, depending on the light.
On the upside, maybe this will save a few people who are looking for jackets some trouble. Even if Hillside only loses a handful of sales it will serve them right.
If you go up into the mountains of southern India, the Western Ghats, you find these very peculiar little settlements that look exactly like English rural communities. They were the hot weather residences of the British because of the truly astonishing differences in temperature and humidity...
I grew up in NY, and my big problem down here is that I miss the hell out of the change of seasons. I'm like a squirrel every autumn except that instead of nuts I want to start gathering cableknit sweaters and tweeds.
