I have the Captains in Midnight Suede and the Presidents in brown. I spend quite a bit of time standing at work (teaching), and I'm finding that I'm wearing them four out of five days a week. Very, very comfortable. The new wingtips in brandy may be my next pair.
Hi, Sheepdog. Where'd you find those boots? I had a pair decades ago that I found at an Army/Navy in N.J. that, if I remember correctly, were from a South American army (don't remember which). They were great boots and lasted for years.
You'd be way better off keeping an eye on the Classifieds area here. Great deals are to be had, and once in a while just the thing you're looking for pops up - and in your size! Best of luck.
You're absolutely right about the length. My khakis and flannels I've had hemmed at about half an inch above my shoes, but the jeans I just roll up to whatever I feel like that day. As you say, "To each his own." A funny sort of situation developed in my department last year, though. We had a...
Always my favorite of the LW jackets, and what a nice rendition. BTW, I've always wanted to ask a LW owner this: when it's raining outside, do you ever hear a laughing, chuckling sound coming from your closet? Just wondering.
I'm with A-1 on this. Once you start wearing the roomier, higher-waisted pants your old tighter pants seem completely ridiculous. I have a couple of pairs of 'straight' jeans that I still wear, but mostly it's the baggies. I didn't even notice he was wearing them.
I don't believe there were prescription sunglasses until the '70's. I remember my father kept a pair of clip-ons in his car. Tinted eyeglasses were definitely a "70's thing.
Whenever I see a young guy these days in a suit, I immediately think of the old comedy gags where a guy would get caught in the rain or fall into a lake and would pop up later with the suit having shrunk two or three sizes. But, yes, suit jackets are much shorter than in the past. Of course...
I'd listen to the ladies at HD. I've become convinced that the Akubra model lines vary in fit, color, and starch content with each batch that they produce. I've no idea if this is true with other manufacturers as Akubra makes the only mass-produced fur-felt hats that I would buy.
You might want to take a look at the Happydays jacket. It's always seemed to me the quintessntial Fifties jacket; in fact, I remember a number of my father's friends during that era wearing a very similar style; very minimalist and utilitarian.
Those are very different kinds of coats. The Walker Slater overcoats are very nice indeed, but I'd wear them with a suit or with nicer clothes, the kind you'd wear if you were going to a nice restaurant, etc. A peacoat's the kind of coat I'd wear instead of a leather jacket. If you'd like an...
About half of my students wear pants and jackets or hoodies made out of that horrible, spongy, sweatpants-like material. It's all they know. A guy in one of my classes asked me what material my jacket was made of. It was corduroy. God help us.
Nice jacket and a great look (I wore almost the same thing last week). The wrist straps really add something great to the whole look. BTW, I don't think it looks too big at all - just comfortable.
