Many of the better suits you might find were originally custom-made, and thus it's hard to find anything that will fit you perfectly. Up until the late 1980's or so incredibly talented tailors were to be found in most big cities and you could get custom suits in beautiful fabrics for very...
If anyone wants to get rid of a smoky, smelly Aero, GW, etc, for next to nothin' in a size 38, I'm your man. I'm pretty smoky and smelly myself. What about those old Bucos? I seem to remember that their natural habitat (and owners) smelled of a whole lot more than just smoke.
I completely agree. For around $500.00 Aero has some very tasty offerings on the secondary market. I've been checking it out at least a couple of times a week for the last eight or nine years. I'd either deal with them or with Thurston Bros., but I'd still like to see what Johnson could do for...
That's such a cool-looking garment (should say warm-looking). Every time I see one I feel this yearning: black Shetland turtleneck, Shackleton, overcoat, maybe. Not where I live, though. Sigh.
In the forties here last night. People here have no idea how to dress for the cold, so lots of colds and flu. Everyone's complaining, but at least it's not "minus WTF!", as Worf described it.
Very beautiful jacket. It reminds me quite a bit of the Finnish Friitala jackets of the 1930's and '40's, which, as I understand it, were often made of goat or sheepskin. Great designs and rugged-looking as well.
Generally, I don't like wearing them with anything other than white or faded, light-weight jeans. The suit is for more formal occasions. I also have a seersucker vest that I wear, as well as a number of linen or linen-silk vests that are great for the warmer weather. Down here you have to be a...
I have a seersucker suit and two jackets and wear them all the time in the sultrier months, usually with either blue canvas deckshoes or tan wingtips or weaves. Perfect for the tropics, especially with a straw hat. I couldn't wear the white bucks, though: I can still remember Pat Boone's version...
I agree, but I'm thinking that most young people today haven't ever seen a halfway decent leather jacket, plus they couldn't afford much more than what Gustin's offering here. Back in the day kids could pick up a nice leather jacket at Sears or Mongomery Ward for not a lot of money.
Ha! It reminds me of that "An Army of One" U.S. Army advertising campaign of about twenty years ago in which you saw troops and tanks heading in one direction and one guy going in the other. My wife laughed and asked me, "Isn't he deserting?" They pulled the ad after a week or so.
Most of the criticism above seems kind of non-specific. For $475.00 I can't think of another new steerhide jacket as decent. I'm with Fonzie on this one.
This has been the year of shoe-mania for me: just counting them up I've bought twelve pair, two of which are Loakes" Bedales and Bosworths. I thought the Bedales, being a G width, might be too big, but with a solid pair of socks they're fine - the Bosworths, a regular F width, are one of the...
This is a weird thread. I just get through reading through one guy's comments and agreeing absolutely with him, and then I read the next, diametrically opposed, point-of-view and I agree with him too. Must be getting wishy-washy.
And there's a Cherry Bootlegger in my size right now on the Aero Sales page. BTW, it's hard to believe it, but your jacket will actually get even cooler-looking. All the best.
