Orvis has a chambray shirt that's exactly that faded color. It's the one with the buttons halfway up the sleeve so you can roll them up and secure them. Very soft cotton, as well. I liked it so much that I bought two more. BTW, be aware that the USN chambray workshirts are 50% cotton and 50...
I'll agree with Ian on the Fryes. I have a pair of old engineer boots of theirs that I've worn pretty regularly for going on 20 years and they're still going strong. I also liked their Rand lace-up boots so much that I got them in all three colors and wear them fairly often. You might want to...
Funny you should mention pebble grain, as I recently remembered a pair of pebble-grain boots I had in high school and have been obsessing over them lately. In fact, the Cole Hahns look very similar to them. As far as Thursdays, I have two pairs and wear them constantly: very comfortable right...
That 1959 looks very interesting indeed. Does anyone know about the fit? Slim? Loose? I'm getting those tax returns any day now. The size chart indicates that it may be a trim fit.
Hi, Wildblue, and welcome to Club 63! I think there are now three of us. Zombie's advice (above) is, as usual, dead-on. Also, though, I'd add that hat brims and heights are relative to the face underneath. In my case I find that the larger brims (between 2 5/8 and 3") suit me best and crowns...
One of my favorite combos: a black hat with a black leather jacket. BTW, there's a great biography of Reed that came out recently by Anthony DeCurtis. Honest, well written book.
Incredibly easy, and the best part was that there was hardly any market for it. The only folks you'd see in the shops were either very poor people or radical college students. Plus, everywhere you could find wonderful army/navy stores selling all kinds of WWII things and military stuff from...
I'm about your height and weight and generally take a 38 short. For an A-2 I believe the general rule is for the jacket to come just below your belt. Just as important are the shoulders. A good place to look at proper fits would be on John Chapman's Good Wear Leather site.
I remember hearing, way back in the 1970's, that "vintage" meant 50 years or older. As far as learning about vintage ties, there's no better way of familiarizing yourself with them than simply going on Etsy and spending some time paging through their "Vintage necktie" sections and then refining...
Hi, Bowen. The black Cal (?) is mind-blowing, but what's the make of that black hat on top of the brown leather? I recently had a whiskey-colored hat custom-made in something like that style and was just wondering about it. Thanks.
You might also consider sleeveless cardigans. I wouldn't match a tweed waistcoat with a tweed jacket (unless as part of a suit), but a cardigan looks great with any jacket or blazer. I recently picked up a very nice dark blue Donegal tweed jacket and paired it the other day with a light blue...
Couldn't agree more. All of mine are beautifully "broken-in" and just seem to get nicer with age. My BGCD, which I got first, is that rare hat that's incredibly soft but still maintains its shape. Love these hats.
Really good question. I'm a waistcoat fanatic and wear them all year, but I got a very nice one recently (Orvis olive green moleskin with a tweed back and pocket trimmings) and I find myself in the same predicament as you. I'm justifying to myself wearing it way too often by reminding myself...
No idea about the hiking, but I've worn them during the rainy season down here and they polished up nicely. If I were to go hunting out in western Florida, I'd probably wear one of my Frye Rand lace-ups, as they lace up much higher and are made of thicker leather. They're also fine boots, and I...
Excellent photos. They seem to capture the beautiful depth of color of the CXL HH. Years ago I was listening to a piece by the minimalist composer Lamonte Young. The whole piece was a single drone sound and, according to the album's liner notes, the listener was instructed to walk around his...
