Why not that much love for Schott 530?

All personal aesthetics aside, the good Schotts are nice. The US made ones are the ones to go for. Insane money new here in the UK now: both London stockists want £1,425.00 for a new 618 or 641. Used they can be had for £400-500, size, condition et cetera depending. That sort of money, I'd...

What old Aero jacket is this? Fur lined.

Sounds like a bullet dodged re a scammer.... in term of jacket I ,though, yes - this is a Bootlegger. Aero do offer some customisation options - I can't find it on the website currently, but they have in the past offered the option of a shearling lining for a £100 upcharge on most jackets...

    The 80s, myth and reality?

It's something I never got into. MTV Europe was always a satellite (subscription) channel. My folks didn't want subscription TV, and by the time I'd moved out it wasn't for me either. I used to see it most commonly in bars - well into the 2010s, it was a thing for a lot of town bars in Belfast...

The Elephant in the Room - Man Purse

Has anyone any experience of a waxed cotton messenger bag? I'm looking at one on Etsy, but I'm just a tiny bit wary of whether it'll leave deposits on my clothes. Had a leather briefcase years ago with a waxy finish that, if it was wet or humid-hot, it left a brown stain on whatever I was...

What was the last TV show you watched?

A Cruel Love: The Ruth Ellis Story (2025) https://www.imdb.com/title/tt28496144/?ref_=nm_flmg_job_1_cdt_t_1 A made for television mini-series, available currently in the UK on the ITVX free-access streaming service. Not the first, but likely the best retelling of the story of Ruth Ellis, who at...

What Was The Last Movie You Watched?

Finally caught Renfield the other night with Nicolas Cage as Dracula and Nicolas Hoult in the title role. It's tremendous, silly fun. The best bit, though, is the flashback to their first meeting in Hoult's opening expositionary narrative: filmed in black and white, and styled after Bela...

    What Price Glory USN G1

Not so much - certainly in Beijing, where I spend time with work, there's nowhere I have ever found (in nineteen years) selling this sort of stuff. I suspect they wouldn't stock my Western size anyhow - I'm a 4XL over there!

    What Price Glory USN G1

Does anyone have the skinny on the current version of WPG's G1? I remember their A2s were highly praised when they first came out, then less so later on. I'm looking for a G1 type specifically for a bit of a fun project (a sort of variation on the AVG theme, but a version I can actually wear in...

    The 80s, myth and reality?

Well, quite. Or Pants. Being caught sans pants in London is an embarrassment for an American - and an arrestable offence for an Irishman.

    The 80s, myth and reality?

AS @Jon Crow notes, it's a term used across the UK and Ireland. Means 'sweater', basically. I do recall that in some parts of the US a "jumper" is some sort of ladies' dress, which has caused amusement to some in the past. Two regions divided by a common language an aw tha.

    The 80s, myth and reality?

These weren't the woolly, sub jumper rollneck stye - which I do like. They were a stretchy cotton, close fitting thing - the initial fashion trend was for them to be worn under a shirt (or - retch - shellsuit), but they were often worn as a top layer because they tended to be too warm. I think...

    The 80s, myth and reality?

I remember poloneck jumpers like that having a big moment in mainstream menswear fashion in the UK in the very late 80s / turn of the 90s. My mother bought my brother and I one each at Christmas that year - and ended up wearing them herself, as I recall. We were both (me much more ideologically...

    Debut novel by Ken Calder

That's exactly the look I was thinking of. I'm sure I've seen an image of Hepburn wearing something like this, though I might have misremembered, or it was a lookalike. :)

    Chronic Illness

It's an odd one: everybody knows about alcohol-induced cirrhosis, but the non-alcoholic version was news to me. I've never been much of a drinker, really - the closest I've been to a binge was probably 14 units over three weeks last Christmas - that's a quarter to a third of the recommended...

Did anyone get a Lewis Leathers x Erostika jacket?

They definitely have a 'thin fit' version of many of their patterns, apparently stimulated by demand from the Japanese market.

Did anyone get a Lewis Leathers x Erostika jacket?

Depends o the effect you want, really... and how flexible you want it to be. I like the idea of a pop of something different tucked away like that that isn't so in your face as art on the xterior would be. Yes, there is that. I could see there being a lot of places that one wouldn't be an easy...

    Chronic Illness

Funny this thread should pop up again this week. I've had a run of it medically these last few months. In the Summer I experienced a number of bouts of extreme abdominal pain. Not quite as bad as when I had the kidney stone in '10, but enough to keep me in bed for two to three days at a time...

    The 80s, myth and reality?

Not much use on rural roads with a less than even surface either. I remember seeing a guy in one driving through a ford in the road on a run. He didn't look close to as happy after that as the boys in their pre-war Austins. ;)

    The 80s, myth and reality?

Likely.... though TBH Jags that modern never did it for me. The one I really fancied was the *original* S Type - basically a MKII with a slightly elongated rear end and longer wheelbase. Known to handle better at speed than the II; in 60s London they were considered the ultimate getaway car.

    The 80s, myth and reality?

We had a Sharp at first, which was *seriously* flash because it had its own built-in cassette deck. Then a couple of years later we 'upgraded' to an Amstrad CPC464. Which came with its own *colour* monitor as well. Used to wait 14 minutes for a game to load.... All these years later, my phone is...
