Yes Rick, the color/size/condition are qualities which compelled me to bid on (and win) the Royal Stetson. I'm elated to have won this Royal, even if it's not a Strat' or a Flagship, etc.
I think the ad and pics were poor overall which gave me a bit less competition in the auction. No science...
They love felt. What's even more sad is what some sellers think their moth eaten hats are still worth after critters have had their way with them (hats).
I complained about Goorin Bros. when we visited Denver and I didn't know this thread existed. I was all pumped to go to a real, old school hat shop but to my surprise, they don't sell felt hats anymore. All wool. I had been walking around the square and had seen so many broken down hats and then...
...and the ribbon being added later is a great observation. It was probably made to look more old fashioned. ....Ironic since the hat is old. I would maybe wear it if it had a nice navy blue ribbon or blue and white, etc. Brad's the authority and it's easy to see why.
Seems the easy flex comfort fit designation on the Portis boater's sweat is differing technology from felt "Swansback" Portis sweat. Anyway, Thanks for the weigh in.
Yes, thank you Brad. I made a bad coffee and pie joke earlier. I have an old Portis Sterling from my wife's Grandfather. I assumed the hat was from the '50s and the logo is the big oval shaped one with the beaver on the bottom. The sweat is wide with Swansback water repellent "cushion band"...
That navy blue is so rich looking. I'd probably wear that more than my black hommy.
Anyone want to make an estimation of my boater's age. It seems rather sturdy and well built than I would have thought for a straw. Its has a quality darker brown sweat. The straw has a tight weave just around the...
I saw this photo in a book about the old west. He was said to be the first man to utilize an automobile for the purpose of bank robbing. Nice hommy by the way.
I'm late to the party.
Steve, looks like the kind of hat I would get some wear out of. Very nice medium ribbon and color.
Mystic, loved the spiral stitched hat the other day.
Andy, nice dimensions on the homburg the other day.
Alan, nice hats lately as usual.
Justin, you can't be too...
Nice hats, especially the westerns. Thank you for the nice comments on the Portis. It was my Grandfather's (by marriage). That would make it one of my more valuable possessions.
G.D., nice hat and jacket. Is that some artwork of yours in the background?
Ok, we got a computer that works but now everything's different.
Anyway, it is great to catch up on all the recent New Year pics and hats. There are definitely some highlights and I wish I could comment on them all.
Bowler, we are a bit chilly up here as well. My brother was in...
