Was kidding about the car payments and mortage money. I was lucky to be able to buy those coats and not have to worry about losing the closet or the moth balls in it. I hope your new coat turns out great. I can't wait for the taloyring
I remember when I couldn't wait for a coat to be delivered to my front door. " I am now a reformed peacoat buyer. I must control that destructive behavior and make sure I have the car payment and mortgage money ( of which I have neither" .
I forgot who it was, but it was one of the...
I'm not sure but somebody on the board here mentioned 1962 as the possible first year for Long sizes as it was printed ' -62-L " on the contract number on the inside pocket of a Kersey coat.
Those U. S. Navy 13 button Kersey bell bottomed ( or maybe" stove pipes " ) sailor pants are BEAUTIFUL. I have 2 pair of Melton and 1 pair of Kersey. I was very lucky as the Kersey was brand new, and supposed to be a 1962. I'm sure these will be the nicest pants I will ever have. Wish I had...
I never tried weighing any of my coats. Now you have me thinking.....
The same goes for short sizes in WWII and post war Kersey coats. I don't think we ever ascertained ( How do you like that 50 cent word? ) if or when short or long sizes were ever issued or even existed.
My 2 fantasy coats are
My 2 fantasy coats are a 1949 46 Long and a 1958 46 Long. Two beautiful coats. I can't imagine how heavy those 2 rascals would be. Plus the fact that I don't think we have determined whether Long sizes were even made way back then.
If you come across any "Click to expand" those are the replies that got messed up yesterday
That insulated liner in the Melton coats also takes up and eats up some space. I noticed that with my size 46 Kerseys and the 46 Meltons. The Melton coats wind up being a tinch smaller ( maybe 1/4 -...
I was having trouble with my computer or cable reception yesterday. Not sure if you received my entire reply from yesterday morning. Usually black = Melton, Blue = Kersey. Kersey is sort of velvety. Melton is coarser . Some years are especially nicer. !949 is one where the Kersey is a tinch...
I hope I'm not going to add anymore coats. As of now I have 11. 9 Kersey which includes 2 WWII , and 7 post war, and 2 Meltons. My woolens coat closet is totally full. By...
Will you still be looking out? I used to scour eBay everyday. I had too. My size is a 46 or a 46 Long. Very few Kersey 46s show up. There are usually many more smaller sizes on eBay and they tend to be lower priced.
Wow, that was one good buy. A WWII coat in that condition and price doesn't happen often. I have 2 WWII coats in Excellent condition and the buttons were also tight when I bought them. I also have a few postwar coats. Be careful though - peacoats may become addicting.
I recently started looking on ebay for a coat for someone else.. I noticed that the coats in very good to excellent condition are few and far between and they are significantly more expensive as are the larger sizes ( 42, 44, 46 ). The larger sizes were always a bit scarce. The prices for...
I'm totally sold on the old peacoats. I like the Meltons but I'm crazy about the Kerseys. I can't fit even 1 more coat in my woolens closet. Another INCREDIBLE piece of clothing are the US Navy 13 button Kersey stovepipe pants.. They are made of the same material as the peacoats. They also...
I've used mine a couple of times. Both of those coats are WWll. One is a Coast Guard coat which is exactly a navy coat but with a different inside tag. They're great if you don't have a hat. That '59 tag looks nice and clean. I'm assuming the coat is primo.
