Hello Peacoat - He was not issued a peacoat when he started CG. He said it was because he started as a non comm, officer. Probably better than that he was working a couple of weeks ago with someone who works for the Uniform Historian of The CG. He said he will email or text me his contact...
My CG coat does have a printed CG tag. It doesn't however, have that little embroidered emblem. A few years ago I bought a Kersey coat that had the small emblem on the sleeve . To tell you the truth I can't remember the specifics of that coat but I did resell it as it turned out to be too small...
Hello Peacoat - Just wanted to throw in my two cents. I have 2 WWII coats. One has no tags. However, it does fit me like a 46. My WWII Coast Guard coat has the inside pocket tag.. This coat fits me just a little bit bigger then my 46 WWII. It is either a 46 or even maybe a 48. They both look...
I also bought one a few years ago and was told it was a different year. I think it was supposed to be an early '50s.. The tag was a 1949. I lucked out on that one. Love those '49s.
Melton coats have a vertical pocket opening on the right side of the front of the coat in between the second and third buttons. Inside the coat and inside that pocket is the tag which has the coats information, Melton coats do not have a full length inside nylon liningng.
Let us not forget that Kersey has a superior appearance over Melton. These US Navy Peacoats certainly look quite sharp!!! Melton looks good but it ain't in the same class as Kersey.
Hi Preppy I'm not at all surprised that it kept you warm, Winter is finally coming to our area of NY. We are 61 miles north of the Bronx/ Westchester border. High temps in the low 30s and low temps upper teens to low 20s. for the whole week. I have my closet packed and I'm ready to go.
Wow, what a coincidence. I just had Peacoat confirm a peacoat for me which is also a '49 with the same contract number as yours. . Your coat is a real U.S. Navy Peacoat, and one of the best years for post war Kersey wool coats. I have a '49 also in size 46.
I can vouch for the size - 46 is not a common size. I take a 46 or a 46L. They were few and far between 10 years ago and I'm sure there are fewer today. I'm lucky I was able to get my coats in size 46 or 46L(ong).
Peacoat - sorry for the delay. I took pictures of my WW II coats. One came to me with no tag. I don't know if it's a Navy or a CG coat. My 2nd WWII coat has a CG tag which was the tag I had sent you. I took pictures of the buttons on both WWII coats and from two other post war coats. I...
If I remember right the inside pocket is a diaganal slit on the right inside of the Melton coats. There is a lot of information on it . Was just looking at my 2 Meltons. They are pretty good lookin' coats.
