I was wearing this hat today when we went to visit some old friends of my dad. My dad's friend commented that he had a few old hats that he had picked up years ago which he never wore anymore, and would I like them.
He went to the closet, and pulled down two hats, this Stetson Flagship, and a...
I got this today. It fits perfectly. It has a bound edge, though instead of being bound in ribbon, it is bound in matching felt. It is not an overwelt, as it appears in the picture. The band is braided felt.
It is not lined. The stetson tag in the crown is cloth, with the design stitched into...
I got the Brent Adventurer today. It's my size, it has nice lines, and it's beat to hell. It's got a big rip in the back that someone restitched, as well as one up in front.Someone's stitched the sweatband back in as well. Oh well. Now I have something to wear out in the woods that'll look nice...
I've been looking for a Barbisio ever since I read about them here. I finally scored one in my size.
The inside looks like it may be a little bit rough, but I really like the lines of this hat.
It's my size, it has a color I don't have, and a ribbon width I like.
I bet a little bit of steam and a good bash will make it look good again.
I certainly hope so, at least.
seeing as there's no liner, maybe it's a summer weight hat? I guess I'll find out soon enough.
I snagged two. one last night, one this morning.
This first one was sold at Brodt's, a washington DC hatter, from which I already have a '30's borsalino and a benchmade homburg. I guess they were a big borsalino dealer. I think that they went out of business some time in the '40s, so I'm...
I found a '50's? stetson sovereign today at a consignment store for 35 bucks.
I say '50s because of the black sweat, but it isn't a stingy brim.
I'd take no cut. It was charcoal grey with a 2-1/2 inch brim, mode edge, and 2 inch ribbon. Diamond bashed. Spotless.
size 6-7/8.
I left it there, but...
Here's another one I just purchased that I thought I'd share. I'd never seen this style before. Thin braided felt band and a bound? brim. And it's still open crowned, so that's a plus. The feather has got to go.
I stuck a bid in on this last night, purely out of curriosity, and ended up winning it. I feel a little bit bad about getting it, as it is nowhere near the size I wear.
How old would you all say this is? From the ebay pictures, I'm thinking late '20s/early '30s, but I've been known to be...
It came today, rolled up inside one of those tiny triangular hat boxes.
I little bit of steam, and most of the wrinkles fell right out.
I love the color of this hat.
and this is what it looked like in the ebay listing. It was listed as a womens hat.
My old pair of hiking boots finally died the other day, so I placed an order for a new pair.
I'm pretty sure that they were made by palladium.
what do you think of these?
they're surplus from some european country. I'm not sure which one they have in stock.
Well- I couldn't resist getting this one, even if just because of the liner design.
It was listed badly on ebay, so I managed to get it for $8.20.
It was listed as a size 6, with a interior circumference of 23 inches. I wonder what size it will actually be. I hope I get lucky.
I have far too much fun with this hat.
I took the brim curl that I had put in about two months ago out by dunking the brim into a pot of boiling water and laying it flat on a table.
I redid the crown, putting a cattlemans crease in it
and I put a new ribbon and bow on it.
I don't know how long...
I'm going to try this here before it goes to evilbay.
The color of this hat is the most unique thing about it. It is described as "black olive" on the reorder tag. In the sunlight, it looks green. When the flash of the camera hits it, it looks brown.
It's a size 7-1/4.
shots of it in...
My dad saw this the other day when he was up in hatboro.
He only looked through the window, but from what he saw, said they didn't have all that much of a selection.
Cool sign though.
This arrived today. It's marked as a 7-1/4, but fits like a 7 which on a straw hat, just doesn't quite work. It's too bad, because this is a nice hat.
Check out the loose weave under the sweatband, so that the holes in the sweatband can breathe through the outside band.
How old would you say...
Here's what I managed to get for 22 bucks (that includes shipping) off the bay.
I'm a sucker for hat companies I've never heard of before. The pictures on ebay were so dark you couldn't tell much, so I lightened them on my computer.
The bow goes straight accross, with a wide center tie.
and...
I got the three borsalinos from Douglas today. I have this one on now, so I have a picture of it, but pictures of the others are to follow sometime later tonight.
please pardon the single dog hair on the hat. If you have a dog, you'll understand.
It came today. It's a 7-1/4, but it's shrunk down, so I'm going to work to bring it back up to size.
The felt is very floppy and thin, but dense.
Inside is a ventilated sweatband, under which is a tag stating it was made in Minnesota.
At one point the hat appears to have had a wind string...
