Here's a hat for me. A stetson Bantam. Supposedly grey/green, with a green ribbon, but who can tell from the pictures?
This is really starting to be my favorite ribbon width. It just looks good on me.
Hey. Keeping up with the whole lumping all the maker/ model together threads we have, I thought I'd start a thread showing playboys, and how they changed over the years. I'd appreciate it if everyone with a playboy, no matter the age or styling, post in this thread.
Thanks.
I'll start it off...
sorry, but I needed somewhere to vent a little.
Someone just asked for a return on a hat I sold on ebay because, "Both the side and the back of the brim are now upturned in a way that is not symmetrical, and I don't want to pay for steaming and blocking the hat."
You know how sometimes...
I got this one as a gamble. There was no size listed in the auction, it was open crowned, and listed as a hat box. I got it cheap, and figured that if it wasn't right, I could always sell it and fund another couple hats.
Thankfully, it came and it fit. I put a quick bash into it, and plunked it...
I got this for prom.
I really am not an expert when it comes to suits or the like; as you all know, hats and ties are my thing. I think it's beautiful and my girlfriend loves it. My favorite detail is the waistband on those pants. Was that treatment a common thing?
It's going to need a little...
I got this today for five bucks at an antique mall (different one than I got the hat at).
The pictures are so bad they're almost ebay-worthy, so I'm sorry.
From the little you can tell from the shots, how old would you say this is?
It's mad of a very interesting fabric, is skeleton lined...
We made a trip today for an interview I had for an art program, and of course, hit some antique shops along the way.
I found this hanging on a bedpost in an antique mall in Westminster, MD.
There was no price on it, but the shopkeeper let me have it for ten bucks.
The stitching holding the...
I just won this. I payed a little more than I would have liked, but I liked the way it looked. I think the seller must have really liked the box, as that's about all they talked about.
It looks like I'm going to have to sew the bow back on, but that's not really a big deal, is it?
My mom picked this up for me at an estate sale today for 15 bucks. Apparently there were about half a dozen fedoras there as well that she missed by half an hour, but I got the hatboxes.
The coat falls below my knees, has cuffed sleeves, and is a size 42 L (which is too big, but wearable)...
It finally came today.
It's not in perfect shape, but it's very wearable.
Very smooth felt, much harder and thicker than my '20s stetson derby.
It has a cool sweatband, where the top edge is folded back a good 1/8 of an inch, I guess to make it conform to the head better.
This one came in the mail.
it's got an underwelt pressed to look like a cav. edge.
Wind string button is sewn to the hat, string loops over it.
It's a nice hat, but it smells so much like smoke that I can hardly stand to be in the same room with it, let alone wear it. Anyway to get rid of this?
I did a college visit today to the University of Philadelphia. It was okay, I liked the ones I looke at over Spring break better. We ate lunch at a funky old luncheonette, and then found a vintage shop. I can never leave those things empty handed.
There was a giant pile of hats, I picked...
I've got my fingers crossed on these, because they are exactly my thing. No size listed, only the one picture, and a meager listing full of misspellings. I'm praying they are either 7-1/8 or 7-1/4, and not 6-5/8 or anything like that. I only found the listing with 20 minutes left on it, so I...
I saw one very much like this in a vintage store in Toronto, but it was hundreds of dollars and in bad shape. A few days later, in Montreal, we stopped in a fur store, and I saw another. That one was thousands, and I wanted vintage anyway. I don't know why, but I just think this kind of coat is...
I got this Borsalino knockoff for $1.75 on ebay a little while back. It came today, along with a paisley tie crammed in a mailing envelope from Italy. A little bit (okay, a lot) of steaming brought it back into shape.
Frankly, I wasn't expecting a hat this nice. It's fur felt, and not all that...
Well- I just got back from a college trip. I found some hats along the way.
I found four of these (The Mallory, the Champ, the Bergen and the Pilgrim) in the same antique shop in northeren PA. THe stetson I found in Toronto.
It's a canadian Royal Stetson. It's aquanized, extra long oval...
We were on the road up around the MD/ PA border today in search for some texas hots and a buffalo farm.
We hit an antique shop on the way. Lots of hats (2 derbies, 2 panamas, 3 boaters, 1 top hat), most were way overpriced.
Then I found this.
It's a 7X clear beaver stetson mode edge.
It has...
Hey all. I bought this lot on ebay. There's a borsalino mascotta in it in my size, along with a straw hat I like. I'm not sure about the rest of the hats, but I think at least some of them should be decent.
here's a shot of the group.
a shot of the borsalino lliner (I had to email for...
I got this today in the mail. My dad quickly appropriated it.
At least I've already got one very much like it.
It came open crowned. Looked like it had never been worn. Whaddya think of the bash I put in it?
mine's the one on the left. It's the same model, but the brim on mine is...
This was the other hat I was given today.
It was absolutely covered in sawdust when I got it. Once I cleaned it off, I found a bad patch of mothing on the right side of the crown. It's an interesting hat nonetheless.
The ribbon on the brim binding has a nice orangey hue to it.
The...
