    Is chivalry dead?

She's a bit stuffy for my tastes, but I guess they were a good fit, as I believe they are still married to this day (almost 30 years later). He's now a Methodist minister.

    Is chivalry dead?

I had a good friend in high school (the early '80s) who believed in treating every female like a lady. On dates he insisted on opening every door (including car doors), pulling their chair out for them, ordering for them in restaurants, and generally tending to their every need. Most of the...

    What's for Dinner?

I don't own a waffle iron, so it's always pancakes around here. I don't do frozen waffles.

    1920s party

You don't say how far away the date of your party is, but if there were time, I think I'd quickly find a suitable seeksucker on ebay and have it rush shipped, along with a boater. Since you don't have one already, you need one anyway.

    What's for Dinner?

Love me some fried bologna sandwiches, and fried bologna with pancakes. In fact I've sort of developed a routine around here of eating the later while watching old episodes of The Untouchables on Youtube. Go figure.

How do you think a vintage diner would do in modern times?

It would be difficult to serve traditional diner fare without a deep fryer (I'm thinking french fries in particular), but it might be possible to get by with just a grill.

How do you think a vintage diner would do in modern times?

This is a prime example of what I DON'T want to do.

How do you think a vintage diner would do in modern times?

Probably true. But if I had listened to others I would have never started my last business. They said I'd be crazy and doomed to failure if I tried to start it with less than $50k to invest up front. I had $8k and I went for it. Within five years I was grossing $250k plus and ran the business...

How do you think a vintage diner would do in modern times?

I understand what you are saying Lizzie, and it's something to consider. But here in the South, just about every town has one or two "greasy spoons" that have served the same menu since the '40s or 50's or longer and are still frequented by young and old alike. There is one soda & sandwich shop...

How do you think a vintage diner would do in modern times?

I've already taken that into consideration. I would expand off the back with a simple structure that would essentially double the overall size, which would house two public ADA compliant restrooms on one side, and additional kitchen & storage space on the other.

    Period Films and Inaccuraces

While not a mistake, but a conscious choice of the director, the inclusion of modern urban music in Quentin Tarantino's 'Inglourious Basterds' completely takes me out of the film. Tarantino is one of my favorite directors, but I wish he would stick to period correct music (or at least something...

How do you think a vintage diner would do in modern times?

For awhile now (at least a few years) I've had the idea to either find and restore, or recreate from scratch, a vintage early 50's Valentine Diner and actually try to open it for business somewhere selling basic era-correct roadside comfort food. Am I nuts? I'd like to hear thoughts from...

    James Dean Jacket

I'll do you all one better. I'll go ahead and give the million dollars for it . . . provided it fits me (Unless Dean was a size 48R, it won't).

    What's for Dinner?

I just don't think homemade tacos (as good as they are) would have been a typical dinner in the golden age, except maybe in border states such as Texas. Of course I guess this thread is not really about golden era food specifically.

    What's for Dinner?

Dinner last night at Crunk Manor (and leftovers tonight). CROCK-POT chicken & dressing, peas, and cranberry sauce. Compliments of my lovely Chef Christy. It's THANKSGIVING in JULY!!! YUMMMM. Served on plates from a vintage diner I might add.

Is my leather jacket too big?

Without a side by side comparison to the next size smaller it's hard to tell for sure, but it looks like a good fit to me. The shoulders and sleeves seem right, as does the torso when zipped. Room to move around but not baggy. Looks to be about as close as you can hope for in an OTR jacket.

    Your First Fedora

My first fedora I inherited from my grandfather. I don't remember the brand, but it was a crushable type. I also don't know why I only ended up with one of his fedoras because he always wore them (along with cowboy hats) and owned several.

Do any of you guys follow any type of hat etiquette?

    Or ketchup on hot dogs.

Vintage Things That Have Disappeared In Your Lifetime?

I think most teachers would have to be in it for the love. None I know make that much money.
