Bearing in mind that a Good Wear costs $900 plus $50 shipping, which equates to £624.67 and an Eastman 'original maker' costs around £484 for a new which is $736 including £10 shipping and which carries no risk of import taxes or getting done for fraud if caught, you have to be looking for a...
When I first saw this post I had to check the date :-) Nope, it's 2nd April and not the first !!
It might be considered incorrect to say that there has never been any negative comments ......... John went through the same learning curves that anyone would go through: dodgy hides, knits, cuts...
Yeah, what is it with Belstaff and the BBC ?
It's freakin' everywhere  'Top Gear' , 'Long Way 'Round', and pretty much anything else on the Beeb.
A couple of years ago Emilia Fox was wearing a nice Aero on 'Silent Witness'. Mind you, she could wear a J-Cloth and look GORGEOUS...
I have to say that chucking mine in the drier for 20 minutes softened it up enough (as it was warm and the leather oils were not waxy) to put it on and wear it and go through a range of motions as it cooled to get it to conform to my shape that little bit quicker.
Dave
Got to agree with reason 1 spitty. Makes the most sense.
Reason 2 is probably not correct. Have you ever seen what happens to people involved in a flying accident in peacetime, let alone wartime with munitions etc ? Rarely was an dead airman removed from the aircraft compared to the...
Like I said : I stand to be corrected !
I agree that flying clothing was issued to someone BUT as I also mentioned, it was a re-issueable bit of kit once the flyer had finished with it. sure some senior officers may have had the clout to keep theirs. Perhaps due to keeping flying status even...
I am prepared to be corrected but if I understand correctly, British & Commonwealth flight jackets (the Irvin) was not issued to the man but kept in store and issued out for each flight (as was all flying kit held centrally and maintained by specialist groundcrew). If someone was unable to fly...
I can recall while working heli-borne seismic surveying a good few years back stopping off at an old Alaska Highways base that had old, tumble-down buildings and in those were creates of all sorts of things: jeep parts, generators and all sorts of other stuff like food and clothing, in various...
Pip,
If you like knits but not 'tight' knits, then do what I have done in the past:
Take jacket and using a shower head soak the knit in hot water, squeeze dry and hang the jacket up to dry by one side of the zipper bottom or t'other and let it's self-weight stretch it out. That makes it...
Anoraks for sale
Did an inventory of my cold weather clothing and anoraks. I have WAY too many to ever get use out of them all where I now reside so I'm thinking of selling three of my ventile and a few non ventile anoraks and jackets.
PM me if you have serious interest rather than photo...
Wasn't there a couple of early versions of the oxygen mask that were used in WW2 that had head straps rather than fixing to the leather flight helmet ?
I recall that the USN had a gfrey/green one and in the movie 'Memphis Belle' the mask with the oxy bladder was a headstrap type too so...
Don't go there Andrew !!! :D
Maybe ELC has caught that virus 'Aviationleathercraftitis' ?? A regression in the quality and authenticity of products. Although to be fair to AL, they are selling to a completely different market.
Dave
I'll have to scan a post some of the pages from a 1970's Blacks catalogue I have. They have ventile anoraks in that.
I also have a 'few' of the Blacks and ITISA Good Companions tents that I use once in a while. Always get a few oldies coming up to tell me tales of where they went when they...
Well, Aero do it on their biker jackets and will do it on any other jacket too. I just personally find that where the leather overlaps on the cuff it makes that bit that much thicker, stiffer and less aesthetically pleasing. (To my mind anyways).
Also make sure you don't go for the internal...
You started it BT ...........................
I was just trying to help you. [huh]
I'll leave you to get on with it yourself then :p
Personally I assumed when you originally asked the question that it was rhetorical as you seem to know enough about ventile anyways and...
