This is my latest find, a Royal Quiet DeLuxe circa 1957 in lovely turquoise. The finish is in A-plus condition. It gleams and has no dents or dings. We are just now getting acquainted and I am enjoying this machine very much. I especially like its highly stylized typeface: Herald Elite. It's...

Foreign accents by non natives in movies and TV

And Boston accents tend to take Rs away from where they are, such as "cah" and the newly famous "blinkah," and add them where they are not, such as "Vodker" or "Idee-er" for "idea." Much of that is fading away in an increasingly homogenized world. Not all Brits get the American accent right...

That's an early Quiet Deluxe. I love those. They're snappy typers and I like the art deco embellishments on the ribbon selector. Nice machine.

    Show Us Your Restorations

Those paintings are actually quite nice. It's a step above most paint-by-numbers that I've seen. This is a Royal KHM circa 1930. It was very dirty when I bought it from Craigslist. I gave it a thorough cleaning, detailed the keys, new ribbon, cleaned the platen, twisted a key, and brought up...

A Huge Radio and TV Museum in My Backyard

Great pics and I'm looking forward to diving into your article. I love those early swivel television sets. They are so perfect-mid-century.

    Hand-written letters, e-mails & texts

I write letters to my mom, my mother-in-law and friends around the world. I do this because I find that it is a nicer way to keep in touch and that email doesn't lend itself to long form writing for me. I usually type my letters and sign them. My favorite typewriter has cursive script. The...

Name The Last Time There Was So Much Naked

I find that people follow the crowd and that even people who often think that they are unique are just following different crowds. I know of a few people who are true individuals and wear what they want to wear when and where and everyone else be damned, and nearly everyone else I know is...

"Mad Men" on AMC (US) - (Spoilers Within)

"The Monolith" (last week's episode) was one of the best that I've seen, loaded as it was with 2001 references. I enjoy these sorts of visual puzzles. Kubrick did as well, which is also fun. It's been a good season. It's sad about its artificial bifurcation, which may possibly interrupt the...

Have television shows finally surpassed movies?

Baron, My Friend, First let me state that I love the show and all seasons and to say that season three dipped is like saying that The Cieling of The Sisteen Chappell is a dip for Michaelangelo because it is a bit busy. But I exaggerate, when I look at a show, I take source material into...

I agree, although this Royal is larger than most SCs. There s no perspective in this photo, but it's quite high. I like the SC Corsair. That is nice looking machine, well-styled, but rubbish to type on. I really loved the black SC of the 40s and earlier, and The Clipper. That was a nice looking...

I always thought that this Royal Safari's style perfectly captured that Space-Race / 2001 aesthetic and this is why I bought it. This is mid-sixties. It's also a very warm machine to type on, although the "Magic Margin" is not so magic to me. What could be easier than the slides on the older...

I can see that and I agree. The styling is very unique and very much of its age. It's so curvy, like a car of the time period. It's also quite heavy. It's odd to think that the Olivetti above it is ten years older. It has more of a contemporary design.
