Up for sale is this awesome hat. The felt is lightweight and is practically in mint condition. The color is a medium blue with a great pleated blue ribbon. Based on several features of this hat, I believe it dates to the very late 30's or very early 40's. The only real fault is a small section...
That looks like a flatter-medium cupped flange. The raised sides can obviously be achieved by steam and shaping much like shaping the brim of a western hat.
There are thousands of flange codes out there. I usually go by the look of the profile on the flange. Do you have pictures of the profile? There were many styles in the 40's in regards to the brim flange profile. I have owned 40's hats that were fanged practically flat all the way up to a very...
Yes, I am looking for a stingy brim...........not for me though, for my cousin.
I am looking for a stingy in black, gray, blue, or white. Maker does not matter. Has to be in pretty nice shape.
PM me if you have anything. Thanks!
Thank you all so much!! (I wish we still had the "hats off to you" icon that the old board used to have)
Alan, if I ever find a felt body like this again, I will make you one for sure :)
Such a classic color combo on the felt, ribbon, and binding. Gorgeous and rare hat. I have only owned one early "Extra Quality" and it really was "extra." I owned a derby, but a soft hat is truly a great find
THANK YOU!! :)
This is probably my favorite conversion to date. I am currently working on a black upbrim that is reminiscent on 19-teens/early 1920's styles hats. Should be done with that one soon.
Here's a couple grainy pics of me wearing the hat at a great Jazz Club just outside of Chicago
In your collection, do any pre war hats vary in felt thickness? I can't be 100% sure about my velour without using micrometer, but just by feel there seems to be a substantial difference. The brim isn't very stiff, so its kind of a miracle that its held such a high cupped flange for so many...
Thanks, Gentlemen!
Steve, the felt on this hat is just incredible. Its fairly thick, but super pliable and shape-able without steam. I feel that the crown is thinner than the brim, which as you can see from the pictures is fairly thick. Unfortunately the sweatband is only being held in by...
I picked this up a few months ago. After some steaming and brushing, the felt on this hat is just spectacular
1920's S & J Fraenkel Wien Velour (Sold by Maurice L. Rothschild & Co.)
The flange on this hat has a super DEEP cup to it
