There are some stunning examples of vintage leather as shown here. Chrome or veg tanned imho who cares, like everything there are good and bad examples of both. The problem though being that it seems to me after the 50s the quality of the leather on mass produced jackets went downhill and never...
CXL is gorgeous to look at but personally the lack of comfort never quite went away so I ended up not wearing the jackets and well... sell them on. I don’t think CXL was created with the idea of making jackets out of it and I think it shows when you wear it.
Vicenza vs Jerky I think it’s a...
Oh ok lol it’s not even visible! :) I need to study more boots construction before making a fool of myself though honestly... if you can’t see that stitching who cares whether is done by hand or with a machine. Not a selling point for me I’m afraid.
Yes that makes sense I think although admittedly if I didn’t know my Clinch were hand welted I wouldn’t be able to tell them apart from other machine welted boots.
Here is a quick comparison. The brown one are Clinch (hand welted) and the beige suede are Attractions (machine welted - Goodyear?)...
I’ve been wearing pretty consistently a pair of LVC 501 1915 model that are made of a very nice... hold tight... 9oz unsanforized denim! I’ll let you know if the blow out sooner than my heavier pairs.
Here is a close up of the fabric
I really like it. Believe is the same as what the 1880...
It was an interesting read especially at the middle lower end of your ranking as we all knew already who was going to take the top spots:)
Question: is there any benefit that comes with hand welting? Both visual or functional.
I think they are both sized correctly but the upper back of the cafe racer is not pretty. I don’t think you need to size down as other have noted the neck hole is pretty spot on already, it’s just the Aero pattern for this style. The stiff nee CXL isn’t helping either but the extra material is...
I’d be interested in Terry’s input but my understanding is that the Cycle Champ took different shapes across the years.
My attempt:
First version 40s
Late 40s (snap on the lapels and no snaps on the belt loops)
Early 50s - patch pockets go away (similar to buco j-82)
Later versions...
We don’t know if they are reproducing the cycle champ or just taking inspiration but the fact is that it is so close than any deviation from the original appears more like a mistake than an intended feature.
That Aero Ranger on @AeroFan_07 looks pretty sweet.
In my experience if they are sized correctly the heel slip is minimal when new and goes away when broken in. I guess it depends on ones foot shape too.
Interesting seems like this “eight” is both finishing and a sewing the jackets.
I bet that Real McCoy’s -> yakuza is used in a figurative sense to imply that they are a much larger operation and dominate the repro market. If they were really part of the local mafia I don’t think they will go...
Very nice jacket and love details! He should make this a regular model.
The fit is not bad to look at but from the pictures my main concern would be the overall comfort. Others have commented already on the shoulders, my other concern would be the bottom opening. Seems tight from the front.
