One of my all time favorite cafe racers is the vintage Harley Horsehide “One-Pocket” Sportster. The horsehide on these Sportsters is simply amazing- the kind of horsehide Shinki wishes it could be. The weight and heft of the hide hits that ideal sweet spot- supple yet substantial enough for...
Found this old horsehide Taubers at the flea yesterday. I swore I wasn't looking for another jacket, but I couldn't pass it up. (I did pass up a vintage Cal Leather cafe racer with diamond quilted shoulder and elbow pads. Sadly it was just too small and beyond redemption.)
Anyhow...here's a fit...
Fresh to market- just picked this up at the flea market early this morning: a vintage black Taubers Horsehide Highway Patrol jacket. Features the early “Nob Hill Genuine Horsehide Taubers of California" label. Also features rare spread collar, interior knit cuffs with exterior snaps, badge...
I have an early Taubers just like this one, and about the same smaller size for sale if anyone is interested. No label, but it's the exact same design. $175.
Fresh to market- vintage Cal Leather Patrol jacket. This is a recent find, and in wonderful original vintage condition. The leather is super supple, and the lining is intact. Just aged perfectly with some well earned minor scuffs and gentle wear over the years. Earlier Talon main zip, Talon...
Pulled out the vintage padded Bates cafe racer today. Blue and white stripes!!
Just found a vintage NOS talon and swapped out the main zip. Maybe it's time for a vintage Bates motorcycle jacket thread?
Nice score! I had a Taubers trucker in a size 40 a few years back. Just a bit too tight on me. And I didn't know what I had, so I sold it for pennies. You'd think there would be more of the T Truckers around...more so than their cafe racers. Lucky you found one that fits in a size 46. It's...
My understanding, inferred from the Tanaka book, is that Taubers was making all their jackets with horsehide up until around 1966. Then when they switched their label to the orange version in the late 60's, they started using cowhide.
Vintage Tauber's Cafe Racer with the earlier Horsehide label and padded elbows...a bit beat around the edges but still lots of life left. Kind of like me!
Looks fantastic on you! But I know it's not just about it looks but also about how the jacket feels. And whether you're going to want to reach for it when you walk out the door...or not.
And I've found that once the jacket is put up for sale there's no way the jacket is ever coming back. The...
Based on recent research with the Rin Tanaka book and archival and ebay photos, I’ve finally been able to determine the maker of this mystery jacket -- a vintage Taubers Horsehide crosszip. Looks exactly like the Taubers Jacket in the Rin Tanaka book “Motorcycle Jackets” (Reference Pg. 158). And...
Offering a vintage Schott Rancher Type 3 Suede Jacket. This is in the rare and hard to find sand suede color. The leather is thick, heavy and soft… and the nap in the suede is gorgeous. All original snaps work well. Lining is in good shape. Some wear expected in a jacket of this age, but all in...
