I've found this helps hold the trailing lead from flopping towards the front of the hat when hanging on a hook. We all know how that ribbon will hold a "memory" for that annoying position until you smooth it out with water. -

Thanks for the reality check, Blare. I think both of your comments apply to a degree. If asked, my friend would claim the "homage" as his reason, and fire-off a steely smile in my direction. But it probably never occurred to him to change it. And that's perfectly OK with me.
