    Need Advice: Crusher Cap Opportunity

OK, I was hoping some people might be able to chime in quickly with an opinion on this. I have a chance to acquire a genuine WW2 USAAC tan crusher cap. There are no photos, but the seller described it as being in excellent condition, in a large size (mine!), and information on a relative to...

    Fed IV Question

Oh, yes. I use it when I'm working outside, shoveling snow, walking the dog, running errands. I favor more traditional fedoras most of the time, but I trust my Fed when it's time to get wet, dirty, or very casual.

Want to order a Fed IV...questions

In my experience, Federations run a little big and shrink up to the right size with use. However, that said, if you ask Hatsdirect for help and it's wrong, it's their mistake, not yours. ;)

    Fed IV Question

Well, I have yet to grab up a Fed IV, but I have had 4 Fed III's, varying in height and bash dramatically. I don't have any pictures left of my first one (thanks to a computer crash) but it was a very shallow c-dent. Here is a shot of my carbon gray diamond bash, black center dent, and my...

    Stetson's Raider II

Wool SHOULDN'T respond well to water. I think this thing was just so heavily shellaced that it didn't matter. :eusa_doh:

    Crusher caps

Don't hold your breath, Pilot. I have asked for photos and reviews of crushers before, as have others. Haven't seen an owner pic yet, and nothing really helpful in the way of info. But I'll sit this vigil with you just in case.

    Stetson's Raider II

Any hat is just a hat, distinguished only by it's wearer. I owned a "Raider I" in wool, which was released after Temple of Doom. Looked exactly the same, minus the feather. It was more like a soft helmet shaped like a hat. [huh] Durable as all get-out, though. I submerged mine in my...

    My Hat Collection Display

I'm not a displayer at all. Nobody comes into my house that would appreciate them, and I like too keep the dust away. So, I keep them boxed in a closet, with a few on stands on a closet shelf for easy access near the door. However, I do usually have one beater on my coatrack. It makes me...

A huge thank you to those bringing business to South Street Hats

Oscar really is a great guy and gives a fair deal to his customers. Having been in his store and met him and his crew, I weep for the slow death of shops like his all over. Glad to see he has a new customer to keep the blood pumping! :D

Pictures of Old Christy's Adventurers Wanted.

One warning about bashing it Raiders style. Don't do the sharp front pinch-crease until you know you have it in the right place. That tight squeezing is hard to completely undo, and tends to leave a mark if you try to change it. You can do it most of the way, but then wait a couple of days to...

Pictures of Old Christy's Adventurers Wanted.

If you really want to do some research, go over to Club Obi Wan at Indygear.com My question for you is, how do you mean "behave?" If you mean the floppier felt and such, then you're on the right track. If you mean that it never seems to die, then no. My opinion is that the Adventurer...

    Psych commercial

The only one I like is the gray one the woman is wearing. It's different - no taper, wide brim. Almost looks like and AB! The other grays look like Temples. The black one is never show up close, so I couldn't hazzard a guess.

Hats coming back in a big way?

This is why I'm not a model. Well... one reason why, anyhow. lol

    Question re: Miller Hats

That sounds about right. As vendors go, Miller is very honest and good to work with. Like any purchase, though, research is best to know what you are buying. If you want a fair-weather hat as-is, they are among the best to buy from, and they look very nice.

Where do you get your vintage hats?

I rarely use the term "vintage" in my searches. Too many false results and lots of "vintage style" results. As a base, I start with the word "Fedora" a brand or model name if I have such a specific want, and LOTS of patience. I also pay attention to terms being used in the results I'm...

    Inspector Bunstead's Hat

You know, David Morgan carries the current "Adventurer" which looks pretty close. Maybe that one is the "new generation" of the Bunstead hat?

    Inspector Bunstead's Hat

Hurt's Akubra model is either hard to find or no longer made. It was called something like the Adventurer or the Hollywood or some such. I tried to track it down some years ago, having found it on an Akubra site, but never found an actual vendor that carried it. It can open crowned with a...

Where do you get your vintage hats?

Being stuck in the middle of the vintage clothing and hat desert, I can say that large sizes are something you only acquire if you are constantly on the lookout, pounce quickly, and are willing to pay serious bucks. eBay remains the best place, and I did get a couple from there... lost more...
