Nick, on my cream linen suit i didn't use any stay tape, but then it's top-stitched approx 5mm from the edge which (in my opinion) adds more than enough firmness to the front edge.
i've never made my own tape so wouldn't like to say.
Barmey, the work in progress looks great. if you want a bit of sage old advice which you didn't ask for but are going to get anyway; i think it's good to do a suit that's maybe on the conservative side before tackling something more adventurous. pace yourself a little bit. don't be in too much...
who said WILD ? .... just something with a bit of interest. nearly every shoes-up-on-desk photo that has appeared in the shoe threads is sorely lacking in the sock department.
bland socks detract from good shoes just as much as vulgar, over the top socks.
oh, and thinner socks too please...
how come the socks i see among the shoe aficionados are always so uninspired ?

TT, there's a weird long-yet-short thing going on which my eye can't reconcile. because of the high buttons, the front lower closure / cutaway looks like that of a long jacket, yet the chest area looks short. my brain is seeing two separate things at once.
of course, you might ask "why didn't...

TT, US ebay of course. i've been looking for a jacket or suit from the 1918-23 period for a long time so i'm glad to finally have one to study. i was also expecting to be using it as 'design inspiration' for my own projects. you might be surprised to hear that after trying it...
just got this suit jacket today, dated Dec 15th 1919. these are the seller's photos, i haven't had a chance to take any of my own yet:
