by eye.
seriously though, i own jackets that have very well padded shoulders and some (early 20s style) that are unpadded and your shoulder fills out the sleeve head... so it's impossible to really have one rule for all. ultimately trying on various jackets, seeing which works with your body...
from the page linked above these are my faves. have to say, these are probably the best modern suitings i've seen, and the closest to 30s British flannels.
Michael Alden should be congratulated. just a pity they're so damned expensive.
where abouts did you find that one ? i can't seem to find the whole range on the site.
apparently Fox were involved in the very first production of Khaki (but in wool serge rather than cotton).
tough crowd. i'm reserving judgement until i feel a swatch, but they look very good to me from the photos i've seen.
i would be wary of wishing for something too bold... i think the red and cream on dark brown ( third from bottom) may even be too bold when made up, and might stray into...
the Fox Brothers / Michael Alden-London Lounge range is pictured on the Merchant Fox site:

i haven't handled any yet, but i believe Barmey has a swatch book.
TT, i don't think so but i'd give it a go; i think there's too much happening on the front. i think it would work better if the two patch breast pockets were replaced by a single welt.
A.C., if a garment is clearly not your size and requires surgery to move it a size or two in either direction then i also don't think it's worth the trouble. better to just admit it's not your size and pass it on. if it's your size but only requires a nip and tuck to make it perfect then it...
no. there are loads of fashion photographers who call themselves artists, and whose work is displayed in galleries and straddles the commercial / fine art divide. to name just a few; Steven Meisel, Nick Knight, Juergen Teller, Sarah Moon...
again, you're talking about what would happen in an...
i've seen quite a few shots on here of people desperate to squeeze into a jacket that is obviously too tight and / or short because they want to wear it so much.
and a few that go the other way and wear overly long or wide vintage jackets for the same reason. generally though, i think the...
it's the context of the images that is bad taste rather than the images themselves. there's a recreation of Woolf's suicide in the 2002 film 'The Hours' which is far more disturbing than the photo in this shoot, but within the context of a narrative which (hopefully) provokes some sort of deeper...
sheeplady, whether the brand have only a vague idea as to the concept of the shoot, or have final approval of the images (which i doubt), my point is that a fashion editorial is not 'advertising' - unless it's paid for by the brand(s).
French workwear jackets with belted backs and pleats are very rare. i saw this one in person when i was up north last week:

Feraud, i'm not defending this particular photo shoot, but i still think there's a distinction to be made between an 'advert' in a magazine which is paid for by the brand and carries it's logo (a lot of fashion magazines are about 50% single or double page ads) and a fashion shoot / fashion...
