For me, the turning point is the move to the two-button single breasted jacket. A 2 button is fine when it has a high button stance but, for me, as soon as the deep 'v' appears I just don't like it as much. When i look at the blue three piece from 1957 i don't have the same reaction, simply because the waistcoat fills the space above the jacket closure.

Personally, I think showing that much shirt through the suit (as in the deep-V cut you're talking about) was just the prelude to making the tie-no-jacket look mainstream.

Oh, to be able to find a pair of white canvas tarsal strap cricket boots anywhere. I was talking to one of the blokes who works in the Cheaney factory shop recently. They had an local fete last year and as part of the day people brought old shoes from home to display as local heritage. He said the best thing that someone turned up with was an ancient pair of white canvas cricket boots.

Yet I have trawled the charity shops of Northamptonshire and have yet seen a decent pair of vintage shoes or boots.
