i'm not convinced the cutaway is to do with cycling. you'll notice the lounge pattern above also has the same shape, as do cricket, tennis and boating. in fact, cycling is the only thing that ISN'T mentioned. ;)

    Pre-1950s British/European sportswear and leisurewear

thanks, i never knew what nationality that label was. i think i presumed it was French. the cardigan was about a 34" and the zip waistcoat about a 40".

^ ... and that reminds me of a cardigan i still own and wear: (... is knitwear really 'sportswear' though ? my pedantic side thinks not, but then, there hasn't been a definitive knitwear thread for cardigans and sweaters outside of specific ones such as fair isles and military...

    Vintage dreams?

dreamt i was watching a news item about an elegant young French lady who always dresses in Edwardian clothing (footage of her dressed in typical Edwardian long summer dress, black boots and hat), and goes on long expeditions, always alone. the treks are usually across mountains, take weeks or...

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly: A Proper Guide to Suit Fit

Q, i suppose i'm talking about men's style generally as being currently up on what was happening in the 70s. i'm sure there were still good patternmakers around then who were more 'old school' than what we have today, but things like high arm holes are frequently talked about as being essential...

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly: A Proper Guide to Suit Fit

same as above; go with what works on you. they are trickier because we get into the area of "are they just big or are they too big" and it all gets subjective. the whole 'bold look' is kind of an over-size look to me, and that's part of what makes it what it is. if you're built like Robert...

traditionally... riding breeches, but at 32 oz it seems too heavy. i didn't realise it was quite that heavy when i ordered the swatches. plus i'm not into the colours.

got these Bedford cord samples from H.E. Box Ltd. seriously heavy 32-34 oz, £39 a metre: to be honest, i really wish it was more like this French hunting cord (don't know the exact cord name). the two colour weave gives it a richness that i think makes it my favourite cord so far. haven't...
