i'm not convinced the cutaway is to do with cycling. you'll notice the lounge pattern above also has the same shape, as do cricket, tennis and boating.
in fact, cycling is the only thing that ISN'T mentioned. ;)

i've just been looking through photos i saved from ebay and found one that looks identical to your suit... but all crumpled up.
traditionally... riding breeches, but at 32 oz it seems too heavy. i didn't realise it was quite that heavy when i ordered the swatches.
plus i'm not into the colours.
