That's the way, cowboy! lol
Seriously though, I like the rough good looks of that hat but I'll bet there will be lasting soiling to that top crown edge and the best adjustment to the shape will be just to pinch the front and keep that crest area pretty much in the same location.
If this...
Gee, I never considered that one. Anyway, it's been a couple of years since I did the silicone treatment to a couple old brittle straws hats of mine. They are stable so I don't think acid degradation is as much of a problem as, well, having the straw break to bits from having no glue...
Naw, I just talked firm to it. :D
The felt on this Playboy is like clay infused paper - if that makes any sense. Enough flexibility to allow hand shaping and enough body to hold what you shape. I too like the deep dents and they were not any trouble to just push them right in.
Yeah, that's a nice boxy crown on that one, eh?!

Bart, those are too very cool photographs, man. Thanks for showing us. Keep safe and keep at it. You're carrying on a great and valuable American tradition! :eusa_clap :eusa_clap
rlk, I can't get over some of the old westerns you come up with. Very good that they wind up with someone like you who appreciates them and wears them well.
Also, that green Sovereign is a very unusual (in my experience) and good looking fedora. Interesting addition to your impressive - and...
"Glue gun" suggests hot glue. I wouldn't recommend you use a glue gun or hot glue even if you already owned one.
As far as not damaging the felt, I don't know. I would think most types of glue would leave evidence later that they had been there. This would only matter if you one day wanted to...
I have wondered this too because of the hat I showed above. I'd like to think that mine is an example of not only very fine weaving but of intentionally rising to the challenge of employing very long straw (and weaving sessions) in order to minimize the vuelta count. Makes me think the artist...
I have hear/read about finely woven Panamas having as many as 42 vueltas but my experience is that not all fine ones have so many.
This one has only 10 or 11 vueltas but the hat has apprx. 2,500 weaves per inch.
