I had to come back to this one since I missed it before.
CONGRATS, dj!! Even IF that hat had sold for twice the amount it would have put the figure in line with modern Stetson fur felt fedoras, which cannot compare in quality and style to the vintage Playboy. I think you are getting amazing...
Thanks, me too! For a paper hat it's not bad at all. I guess it's the difference between 'then' and 'now' as far as quality goes. Hard to tell but the leather sweatband, the design of the type on it, and the diamond pattern vent holes suggest '40s or '50s to me. But of course, ALL these hats are...
'Twas a recent Ebay auction. (Might not be from Mexico, but I did get it cheap! ;) ) It's obviously coated in something which provides the 'waterproofing'. The hat is rigid but in a style and shape that I like. We'll see how many rain drops this thing will handle before turning to mush.
Great hats and adventure shots. I have a Kangaroo leather that is my hiking hat since it is floppy enough to work around a high pack and solid enough to carry about a quart of water. :)
I recommend you do not do any horseback riding in that one with the rattlesnake rattle on it. ;)
Jeez Louise! What a fantastic bunch of posts, folks!!
That big pencil curled straw of Douglas' (and the setting of that shot), Rusty's Milan, Bart & kids, Carey & family, on and on... All of them. Just great fun to view. Thanks to all.
