I agree with all the rest LizzieMaine. It reminds me of my early visits to my grandparent's house. It looks lived in instead of precious. I enjoy that.
The first contemporary group that I can remember that had kind of a vintage feel to their music. I thought it was pretty cool back in '72. Only later did I find the music that inspired them.

In my early years in retail both the Sears and JCPenney stores I worked at had cafeterias inside the store. They were reasonably priced and you were able to get a real meal instead of food court fast food. The very first music concert I ever went to, held in the Sears cafeteria, was the...
Just found that record in an antique store a couple months ago. I've really been enjoying it. Just goes to show how much great music is out there all the time that very few people have heard of.
I just saw Rodney Crowell at the Kenworthy, our 1925 era theater. It was a solo show reading from his new book "Chinaberry Sidewalks" & singing songs old and new.
Convenience is one thing but I think the pace of life has gotten too fast. We've become so used to instantaneous results that we stress whenever anything takes the least little bit of time. I think a return to enjoying the process rather than stressing about time would be better for our health...
I don't think these are what is usually called tin-types. The tin-type era usually dates from around the civil war and these look 20s or 30s by the clothes. They look more to me like something that might have been taken in a photo booth at an amusement park, sort of the predecessor to the film...
Yeah, I'm kind of amazed too. As the tag says it was found in the loft of a vintage bicycle shop. I actually didn't have 12 bucks on me at the time and was a mile away from home on foot so I hoofed it home as fast as I could hoping someone who knew what it was wouldn't get there before I got back.
Actually this came from my local antique store but they often have thrift store prices so I will include it here. I was doing my semi-regular record shopping there when I noticed this leaning against a case. Having read a lot of books on design I recognized it immediately for what it was, a...
Am I the only one who's having this problem? Nearly always when I click a link that the moderators have added to take me to a similar existing topic I get a thread that has nothing to do with the topic being discussed. It's a real head scratcher to be linked from a post talking about vintage...
We've got a wonderful old theater, the Kenworthy, which has managed to survive since 1926. These days it mixes live theater and music with films but at least it hasn't suffered the fate of becoming a church like so many do around here. I've got nothing against churches, I attend weekly myself...
There is, or at least should be, an etiquette involved with whistling. Some people have very shrill whistles that don't go over well in an enclosed space. I usually whistle at home or when I'm out on a walk. It's usually frowned upon in a business environment.
I just finished watching the documentary about whistling, "Pucker Up", and thought it might be time to resurrect this topic for the people, like myself, who weren't here 2 years ago.
The golden era we all love was also the golden era for whistling and many big bands would feature a segment with...
From Planes, Trains and Automobiles:
Neal: What's the flight situation?
Del: Simple. There's no way on earth we're going to get out of here tonight. We'd have more luck playing pickup sticks with our butt-cheeks than we will getting a flight out of here before daybreak.
[waking up after...
