Just found this one on Boing Boing. It looks like a parody but this is an actual ad that ran during WW2 when industries were stopping production of their normal products and gearing up for wartime manufacturing.
Just catching up after a week of having my computer in the shop. These two beauties were really up my alley. Anything with a tropical theme floats my boat. Cheers on both of them!
Here's a few from opposite ends of the country. From New York, the Cangelosi Cards and from Los Angeles, Janet Klein and her Parlor Boys and the Reynolds Brothers.
Ferlin Husky just died at 85. There's very few of the 50's & 60's era country singers left. R.I.P. Ferlin

I think I see the Eiffel tower woven into the blue background fabric upside down near the tip of the wide side of the tie. Either that or I'm hallucinating.
We've got a house in our town that is a virtual twin to that house, picket fence and all. That 1960 Fury really makes the picture complete. The road yachts from that era are almost as big as a house.
I especially enjoy stories where people with a family history to a house get to hold on to them and fix them up. It sounds like maybe your father designed in a mid-century modern style? Be sure to remember to post some pictures here when you're done with your renovation.
My mother had a candy shop in the early 60's. She hand made the cream centers and hand dipped them, a real lost art. When she dipped them each piece of candy had the initial of what the center was formed in the chocolate. It looked so easy when I watched her do it but I found out how...
Thanks, I was guessing it was from somewhere around there. I guess the reason double sided ties didn't go over to big is because you can see the different pattern from the back around the edges. Looks like of cheap.
Any guesses as to the vintage of this double-sided tie? The fabric looks 60s era to me and seems like cotton but it's pretty long for a 60's tie - 59". Also were double sided ties commercially made or is this likely a homemade tie? I'm not super fond of the prints but I'd never seen a...
Oh yes! I was already salivating at the thought of donuts before the door would open and then that smell would hit. It seems like some of these delivery services would be ripe for a comeback. It's much better ecologically speaking to have one truck with a delivery route to 50 houses than to...
Goes to show that traffic isn't a recent phenomenon. I'm amazed at how well pedestrians moved among both horse and horseless carriages. Seems like it would be pretty dangerous crossing the street.
Nice house. It was interesting (and frustrating at first) reading of your problems back in 2007. I'm glad they saw the error of their ways and gave up on their stupid plan. Way too many historical buildings fall to short-sighted planning like this every year.
