I'm in my "mid-life crisis" years so I should be wanting some sleek, low-slung, red sportscar but ever since I saw this picture this has been my fantasy vehicle, an Alfa Aerodinamica. I imagine a few heads would turn when you drove this down the street.
Certainly not a vintage item but the subject matter of this DVD set qualifies as vintage- country music videos from the days when country music was something different than the 70's rock with a drawl they call country today. I found this set for $3.99 at the local thrift.
One month to the day from the last palm tree themed tie, and in the same thrift store, this one showed up for a buck today. The palm trees keep finding me. I've got 4 now.
What this thread needs is more pictures. There's nothing drier than talking about lighting without the ability to see it. So here's my hula lamp, found when I was cleaning out my father-in-law's garage. Nothing better than a free hula lamp! More pictures please!
As you wish. I had a feeling I had seen the palm tree tie before and got out "Fit To Be Tied" this morning. There it was on the cover in a different color way.
When I first heard of it the steampunk movement kind of fascinated me with it's repurposing of all those gears and industrial parts. But now I realize that a lot of old typewriters, clocks, etc. are being torn apart for what will probably be a 5 year fad. It's kind of sad to think of all the...
I hate to be the only person posting here but I just saw an episode of Antiques Roadshow and learned about the House of David baseball team. The House of David was a religious commune founded in 1903 that fielded several very popular baseball teams starting in 1913. Male members were supposed...
Another one of the hermits was William Peter Pester, known as "the Hermit of Palm Springs". Here he entertains Rudolf Valentino while he was making a movie in the area in about 1920.
Here's another picture. Hard to imagine this was the 20's and not the 60's isn't it?
More here (scroll way...
Just came across this and thought I would share. I haven't made up my mind about the looks of the thing but somebody sure put a lot of time and effort into this.

Shangas how cool to find blueprints of the original layout of the house! I'm interested in the way houses evolve over time. Provided you don't have some kind of homeowners association dictating what you can do to your house that's the way that neighborhoods develope character. If you visit...
We live in Moscow, Idaho and once had a set of time-important legal papers get sent by the USPS to Russia. They were clearly marked Idaho but off they went anyway.
I think many younger cooks harbor a little fear about something which works under pressure. My wife used to be a little afraid to use one until she tried it. Now we use one all the time to cook up vast quantities of dried beans which we then freeze. Much cheaper than buying canned beans...
Another town that comes to mind is Locke, California. It is the only town in America built and inhabited by Chinese immigrants. It has a small amount of tourism, which barely keeps the town afloat, but mostly it just quietly sinks into disrepair. We went there mid-week once and it was nearly...
We had a discussion around the campfire the other night. I did not realize that the free "time of day" phone number, the one that began, "at the tone the time will be...", has been discontinued in most places.
Actually it was a few months ago but we enjoyed seeing Leon Redbone at the Bing Crosby Theater in Spokane. Leon is quite a character and knows his early 20th century pop tunes like no-one else besides the late Tiny Tim. The venue was great as well. I believe Bing might have played there in...
Amazing stories! Those of you in Europe have an advantage on those in the states in the oldness of your houses. A house built in 1756 must have a lot of stories to tell. When I speak of my house, built in 1947, as being old, it really doesn't compare at all. W-D Forties, how odd that they...
Just remembered another sister group, this one is way outside the norm. The DeZurik Sisters, also known as the Cackle Sisters made a career out of yodeling like chickens. If you can narrow your niche enough there's not much competition.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=51UXGg9raGU
