Where are all these Gibsons and Fenders going anyway? Is it Japan, the same black hole where all the belted back suits are ending up? Just looking at the price tags of some of the stock at the best guitar shop for vintage here in Houston gives me the vapors. The advice to find a servicable...
Start with a blog called Hipster Runoff run by an enigmatic character named Carles. Ostensibly the blog is about indie music, but really it's a super-self-reflexive meditation on the vapidity of culture in general. Ironic to the point of, to paraphrase Kierkegaard, eating its own stomach. One...
Yeah I saw that and was mystified. What possible conflagration of circumstance could have spit this out of its maw? I'd say the 70's, but I'm not sure that's even pejorative enough to be appropriate.
You're going to have a really hard time finding a decent vintage guitar in playable shape for that much money, I'm afraid. Your best bet will probably be ebay, unless you know where "the" spot for guitar collectors is in your area. My recommendation is to get very clear on what kind of guitar...
Mario,
I love the way your tie picks up on the color of your braces. Trouser/shirt/tie combos always feel a little incomplete to me without a jacket, but the careful color coordination here nullifies that entirely. Well done!
John,
I too find myself soberly considering the shooting in Colorado. Perhaps the shooting itself is a sign of the cultural decay rehashed here across 296 pages, though random violence has always been with us. Personally, I'm preparing to be more horrified by the media coverage - the...
Looks to me like from the late 30's? I love the shapely lapels on the jacket, though the black color counts against it, in my opinion. Two days on ebay and already the bidding frenzy is in full force.

items arrived today, and they are incredible. Jacket tag says made to measure (which explains the lapels) and she is virtually like new. Also fits me perfectly. dhermann, thanks for your suggestion, but I am afraid that white flannels are currently lacking in my wardrobe, but I do have a pair...
Yes - I thought peak lapels became the norm when Morning Wear moved up the ladder of formality. I would guess that transition took decades and probably wasn't REALLY complete until the second half of the century.
Personally I think they look fine. Most folks these days seem to eschew patent leather entirely and just buff up their black calfskin oxfords. So you're ahead of the game, even if they aren't Mary-Janes! Another interesting option is velvet slip-ons. RL seems to be favoring this look in...
Yes, some of these combos do disprove that piece of conventional wisdom, given that several of the ones contrasting complimentary colors are still quite pleasing. Still not a fan of the silver/white over green and mustard though. It is funny how much more exuberant and wild men were encouraged...
Yes, though as a silver lining, it's like $250.00 I've gifted myself with all of a sudden, which ain't so bad. I tried to be all scientific about it too - I'd watched several similar sport coats come and go for a/b $200.00. Naively hypothesized that adding 50.00 on top would assure me victory...
i was the $250 bid. Nuts. Hope a nameless lounger won it! BK I also am a 36, and will certainly place myself in the running for first PM if any of your excellent collection come up for sale.
